My BIOS just randomly resest itself today. One minute it's running great and the next it freezes up at the MSI screen when it was booting. I hit the reset button and it booted up fine. The next time I booted it up the BIOS had reset and didn't recognize my hard drive anymore. I adjusted the settings and now it's fine but I'm a little worried that there is something wrong with my mobo or my SATA drive. Any ideas?

I guess it could be. The mobo is only 2 months old. I guess MSI could have just put a bad battery in it.

hey i could be wrong also but i thought about the same thing when i read post. if its definately not remembering your settings its the battery (you constantly have to re enter the bios and re set the time date and all your other settings). but if you say its not seeing your harddrive anymore then it could be something else. if its remembering your setting but its not seeing your devices and they're not starting up at post, then check your power, cables and jumpers. I think im a little confused with your statments as to what is actually happening to you.

someone i know was having major harddrive failure (which lead to restarts, data loss and or the pc miss behaiving in a bad way) and its because he had a huge speaker on top of his tower (it wasnt shielded). He didnt belive me that a non shielded speaker wuold freak things up, so i told him to hold it up to his crt monitor.

Sorry if my original post is a bit confusing. Let me explain a little better. When I started ocing my system some of the Windows files became corrupted and I had to reformat and reload everything. I got everything running fine @3.6Ghz with the memory timing @2.5-2-3-5-8, vcore @1.5625, and ddr voltage @2.9. I ran Prime95 for 4+ hours before I stopped it and my computer has been running @3.6 for the last two weeks with no probs.
So yesterday when I went to boot the system up, it froze at the MSI screen before it booted into Windows. I hit the reset button and it then got into Windows just fine. Later that day when I went to turn on the computer again, the BIOS had reset itself and the option under "Integrated Peripherals" that allows the SATA drive to be detected and utilized had been switched off. I configured everything back and now it runs fine except for the computer kicking me out of games every once in awhile.
Do my voltages look way outta wack? I can try changing the battery but like I said the mobo is only two months old.

if youre oc'ing at all right now, then stop. its obvious that your system isn't stable for an extended period being oc'ed. also, in terms of voltages, can you post the 12v and 5v readings?

I checked my voltages in my BIOS and got the following ranges:
3.3V= 3.328-3.392
5.0V= 5.114-5.219
+12.0V= 12.212-12.538
-12.0V= (-12.235)-(-12.153)
Battery= 3.072-3.088
+5V SB= 4.986-5.066

Do those look okay? Right now I'm running at stock speeds. Also what other tests can I perform when ocing, besides Prime95, to check for stability? It ran great for two weeks so I'm not sure where the weak link is.

could be the bat but windows curruption and reset bios are a sure sign of too much effort on the part of that chip. you are getting a huge oc and i am sure that at 3.4 or 3.2 it would not happen.
i reinstalled xp several times when it became broke from ocing.till one day just for the heck of it i just went to stock speeds instead. like magic the corruption was gone and xp booted fine. ocing too much esp with sata will cause this problem
esp if you run raid 0
