I tried my hand at a snatch PR for the first time today - stopped at 108lb. I probably could've done more, but I went to the lunch WOD and was running out of time. Not a great amount of weight, but I was getting REALLY happy about my hip drive. That said, I was forgetting a strong shrug because I was thinking about my legs and hips. These were hang snatches too.

Gotta love days like this, when a movement finally starts to fall into place. I just want to be decent before October, which is when I plan on attending a Greg Everett oly-lifting class.

We worked on our 1RM front squat today, followed by 5 reps at 60%, 65%, and max reps at 70%.

For my first PR, 205lb felt pretty good. I'm at about 165lb right now, and I stopped at 205 - I have the strength to do more, but my technique (weak core) was making me drop.

I'm still happy with 205, for now, knowing that I should be able to improve a good deal in a relatively short amount of time.

330lb deadlift today! Just tried it for fun (someone else had it set up) and I probably could've done a little more! That's double my bodyweight, which has been one of my main goals!

hah...yeah, that might take a little longer. I've only been doing heavy deadlifts for a few months now, so it's taken me 2-3 months to go from 305-314-330.

Another 80 pounds, eh? Should be an interesting challenge.

Congrats on the DL PR. Few things feel as good as finishing a strong rep of DL and standing upright with hundreds of pounds hanging from your hands.

Seriously! After watching the latest "Lunch with Burgener" video from the CFJ and hearing his constant "knees back, knees back, KNEES BACK", I really felt a big difference in my form. I think that previously I had the wrong mental picture of the bar's optimal travel path. And engaging the posterior chain like I did yesterday just made me feel much more stable and strong. After it got up past my knees, I was home free!

Now I need to gain in grip/shoulder/lat strength, since it became more and more difficult to "push" the bar back into my legs as the weight got heavier.
