Hi,

I have a new EVO 850 120GB (bought 20 days ago). I only installed windows 8.1, 3 or 4 games, skype and web browser (ah and the antivirus) on it.

I only have made the windows updates at the first/second day, and after that, I only installed some small programs like VLC or Teamspeak.

On the 2/3 first days samsung magician has saying my TBW was 0,09/0,11. (I only have 30/40GB of space in use).

The problem is that after 20 days, magician is saying that my TBW is 0,67! How is that possible?? Is this normal?

Nearly 1TB in less than a month, without installing anything! Without Windows Updates... Only updates that I made in 20 days was some game updates, but if you count the total in GB's for the game updates, at max, it reaches 10GB.

How can I have made 670GB without reinstalling / installing software? (As I said before, I only have 30GB of space occupied on the SSD).

Thank you.

Hello,

First, thank you for your answer.

I have Magician OS optimization set to maximum reliability, and because of that many things are disabled by default. I disabled the page file yesterday (it was set at 1GB max), and I disabled the system restore points too.

I don't understand where did I get 670GB written on a new 120GB SSD if I didn't reinstalled / installed or copied files to the SSD.

So after 20 days 670 GB. That's 670/20=33.5 GB per day.
So, maybe you booted up your computer 8 times per day, and it wrote 4 GB to the hard drive each time you booted up those 8 times per day?

might try running Crystal Disk Info. Some (not all) drives will report cumulative data written. would be another data point.

Oh, did you run some kind of testing program to see how fast the SSD performed? Maybe that just wrote a bunch of random data for testing purposes, increasing the cumulative data written each time you tested it?

Yeah, I used Magician to benchmark the disc on the first days, but only in the first 2/3 days, some times, and the max I have seen of TBW after that was 0.11TBW.

Probably all of the above also how about monitoring your drive with some other disk utilities (apart from Magician) & see what that throws up, assuming you have turned off defrag, pagefile, superfetch, hibernation, restore points et al

I only had pagefile enabled, and restore points. Everything else is automatically disabled by magician (max reliability profile).

Btw, is it normal to have "Runtime bad block (total) 100 99" ?
The worst is 99, is it normal?

Thank you guys!

Hey, I checked my write ratio on an 850 PRO, it is MUCH lower.
This is the result of at least installing Windows 2 or 3 times including Games and over 1000 hours running.

Maybe check the task manager and watch "Drives" in Processes-Tab.

Or you may check the restoration point in the contral panel.

Btw, these Magician "optimization" is complete crap. Normally I would recommend to reinstall Windows and sty away from that crap. Windows 7+ needs no tweaking for SSDs...

Maybe Windows updates or something else ?

It is always better to take a screen shot of Crystal Disk Info at first, when bought a new drive.
