The Big Bang singularity is more recently regarded as the point of origin for our local universe, which exists in a larger "multiverse" context.

Personally, I don't think there is a problem to decide "how it all started" -- I don't think it (i.e. the totality of existence) "started" at all. It wouldn't really make sense.
