i still don't get why they didn't teach this during my biology class!

They didn't? We spent 2 weeks and had a pop quiz on this in my college BIO 101 class! It was a little advanced for high school bio though...

Science is about constantly questioning things, not a "DAMMIT YOUR HURTING THE CAUSE DUMBASS" attitude.
I agree.

Add to that alot of the latest research would seem to support at least the basis of the panspermia theory............

I for one believe there is a higher being, God, and that we also have much scientific evidence that shows how life evolves and continues to evolve. The nice thing about science is that we are always looking for the truth, so new findings that show previous theories are false are as welcome as findings that help support our current theories. Creationist beliefs don't change this way, and can't stand up to scrutiny if you ask for help through questions and trying to find a greater understanding.

Life and everything that makes up life is so incredibly complex, and that's the main reason I believe in God, that so many possible things could have happened that would not have resulted in our being here, yet we are. So I believe we were created, though not just like magic and that everything was created suddenly and completely, but rather that we were created like any artist would create, through having a vision and allowing some element of free action (or free choice as we have) to affect thevision, resulting in a truly unique item. Evolution is much the same way, there are many possible things that could happen, and natural selection tends to rule out the ones that don't help a species.

I just don't understand why people can't accept parts of both evolution and creationism. I mean there's not much that is ever really all or nothing.

Actually, aliens in another galaxy who are in fact millions of years ahead of us in terms of technology and intelligence planted us here on this little planet called Earth an extremely long time ago. Well before we had pencils.
There is no God. When we die, our bodies turn to dirt and our spirits are born again in yet another galaxy.
Gee, I thought everyone knew this.

Well you can and you can't. For example, It can be proven that giraffes overtime evolved as their longer necks allowed them to reach leaves in high trees. Those with shorter necks could not reach as many leaves and were not as sucecfull and profiencent. Long necks in Girraffe=survial of the fittest.

If you put your brain to it you can figure it out.

However, religion is not about thinking it is about believing. That is why it is called faith. You think its true even though there really is no evidence to support your beliefs other than a book written a long ass time ago by who knows who.

Now the paradox here is that if there really was any evidence to support your religious beliefs then you would not have to have faith, which would then devalue your religions belives. As we all know the beauty of the christain faith is that you "just" belive.

I honestly do not care what you think, and if others want to debate with you then have at it. Just resepect my right, and my childrens rights, not to have to be subjected to your "faith". Science is not "faith" and is not a religion. Science is based on fact. Theory or not.

Be respectful enough of others to understand that YOUR religious beliefs should be taught in YOUR religious setting. Like church, private school, or sunday school, not PUBLIC SCHOOL.

And don't even try to come to my door, as I will meet you half way up the driveway and forcibly excort your small minded, ignorant, medieval belief system having, blindly following rear back to your mini-van

Has anyone ever called you an assh*le? You sound exactly like the guy who leaves your church parking lot after attending service and gives the finger to the person who just walked in front of your car because he didn't get out of your way fast enough! Not to mention you probably put your window down to shout obscenities at him as well.

As for religion and public schools. I don't think teaching a particular religion in public schools is a good idea either, but what all schools need is to have a religious class that teaches students about all the world's religions, their ideals, history, the basic fact that there are other religions in the world and that everyone should understand and respect each others beliefs.

You are free to believe in any religion to choose to, just don't get all mean and nasty to those who don't exactly believe in the same faith as you. That's the biggest problem in the world today, people who refuse to accept that fact that there are other religions beside their own.

Not everyone is full of it.
Perhaps he meant Pizza when he said Pie. That would make sense as we are made of meat.

Oh, I wasn't implying everyone is. It just seems there are an awful lot of them.

Mmm, pizza. Now I know what's for dinner

My apologies. I completely misread your post. It's getting towards the end of the day at work for me here, so my brain is mostly fried.

Maybe I missed the memo, but is it now Standard Operating Procedure for people on ATOT to make these boneheaded threads knowing it will just attract flames and rampant stupidity from all sides of the aisle?

If people really wanted to figure out something, perhaps they should contemplate the meaning of "search" and "Google" before coming here.

we evolved from alien poop. a spacecraft landed on earth cause the fliers needed to take a dump (didn't feel like messing up their freshly cleaned bathroom)... so the took a dump... and the bacteria from their poop spawned into us: humans...

I'm not sure if the person who quoted the following passage from the Bible is someone who takes it literally, or is just showing that Genesis != big bang...

16 God made two great lights?the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.

Hmmmm... So, the Bible says that the moon is a light? It doesn't produce light, it only reflects the light from "the greater light." I really think that some people really should reconsider their literal interpretation of the Bible. Take a couple of courses on the history of writing, and you'll see that at the time the Bible was written, most writings were allegorical or metaphorical. Of course, you're welcome to believe that the moon is a light. There was a thread in highly technical from some person who actually believes the conspiracy nuts that we've never sent anyone to the moon. Maybe it does produce its own light. (and, maybe it's made of cheese.)

Exactly as I said... The bible is a book of metaphorical lessons... each having some attainable truth from it... not necessarily to be taken literally.

Even if the light is reflected off the moon from the sun, the moon still lights up the night when its visible.
