Evolve is dead already

So Evolve has finally managed to bury itself in the hole that its been digging up for the past year or so. Anyone else see this coming? I mean the game never sparked interest for me, when I heard about it and saw game play trailers throughout 2014 I knew deep in my heart that the game was going to be boring and probably end up failing. When the beta came out my beliefs were confirmed as I ended up playing for about an hour before I decided to un-install it and move on.

The game doesn't even appear in the top 99 games for current player count. How could one of the biggest multi-player releases of 2015 crash and burn that hard? Why did anyone buy the game in the first place is more of what I am wondering. I swear I actually feel pain in my heart for those that pre-ordered this game. I feel even worse for those that purchased it after the fact and can't even fathom the hurt of those that engaged in micro-transactions.

Maybe its just me, but I saw this coming. I knew it was going to bomb, I knew the game didn't have any lasting appeal and in all honesty I am glad it got knocked out. Take-two expects that the game will max out at 1.5m units sold until the end of 2015, I really wish I could see the actual sales figure. The biggest problem I have however is the fact that so many people decided to pay out of pocket for crap like this and even dive deeper into their pockets for season passes and micro-transactions. A shame really.

I guess Turtle Rock Studios was still high from Left 4 Dead. I mean hey, you can't make a hit every time.

Probably because of the limited replay value of the game itself, not so much because of DLC. I bought the game but only played a few hours because I ended up going back to BF4 so money wasted for sure. Plus none of my friends were willing to buy it and I hate playing with pub players so there's that.

You should have shorted the game.

I play the don't pass line for most new game releases these days. Sure, people give me dirty looks, but man do I make bank!

Yeah I didn't see much replay value in this game. I tried the console beta and it didn't do much for me..

Hi Guys
It never tempted me or my son, just go to feel sorry for the customer who paid top price and now stuck with a spanner, so that another game that gone to the wall of shame. The more new games they bring out, the more I'm willing to wait for....
1 Has it been finished
2 the price will drop
3 how many other players say it's good or bad.
I know years ago when I was in the video trade, that the blockbuster title had about 6 weeks top, then it was a shelf filler. You never made tthevmoney back for the A titles, it's was down to what deals we gave the customer. So how long now does an A title last, I know it's longer then 6 weeks, but how long?

From what I understood if you were playing as hunter (which most people were) you needed a skilled team to make it fun and even one player not doing their job can lose you the match, which means public servers are a crap-shoot at best. Also heard that there are serious balance issues with some of the monsters.

Those are the main reasons I avoided it. With every big release I'm more and more glad that I stopped pre-ordering after Mass Effect 3.

Discounting any DLC issues and such, the game just sucked. The levels were really pretty bad, the camera angles sucked, and the overall idea of it was just not very well thought out. Or maybe it was over-thought out.

I loved them saying "anyone can play against people who bought DLC so the player base isn't fragmented and it's fair". How is that different from being able to buy a new gun as DLC in some other game and shoot other people with it who don't have access?

Just stupid and I'm glad they crashed and burned for this choice. Maybe not the devs but the publishers anyway.

I just didn't understand the appeal of this game one bit. It was Left 4 Dead multiplayer, but without any of the things that made L4D good. Not surprised it burned out as quickly as it was hyped up.

Your first paragraph is also what I believe greatly contributed to the game's "popularity" (and hype) rapidly fading away. The importance of having a virtually-perfect team is too high for the game-play to be enjoyable for casual / newbie players. You have to memorize the maps down to the nooks and crannies, and you have to know how to play your class just as well as if you were playing some MMORPG DPS/Tank/Healer. I think that a lot of players bought Evolve expecting it to turn out to be just some sort of purely raw action-oriented shooter that doesn't require your brain to function, and they hit a wall real hard.

Now, admittedly, in comparison to Evolve I do remember Left 4 Dead's Versus mode to be a very frustrating and enraging experience which I eventually stopped playing entirely in favor of a more enjoyable, funnier, forgivable and even almost relaxing campaign in cooperation. The only exception was when I happened to be playing [Versus mode] with friends (which I assume is the same with Evolve, as it is with many other games out there, such as Borderlands for example).

I find it unfortunate, however, to see Evolve sort of "dying" (popularity-wise) that soon. And come to think of it it looks like the game had an even shorter "shelf life" than Titanfall (which is quite something to say). I loved the original L4D (campaign, and in cooperation), and I thought that L4D2 was alright overall, but Evolve... is just not for everyone it seems. I wonder if the devs will bother supporting it for the coming year or so, or if they'll move on and work on something new again. I just honestly hope that if Evolve really ends up being a financial disaster that it won't cost us the gamers another development studio.

I still feel like I got burned buying Titanfall 50% off. Shadowrun (the xbox/pc multiplatform fps) is another multiplayer game that died really fast. I'll probably try Evolve when it hits F2P...
Anyone remember Brink? All Points Bulletin (ABP)?

Anyone have a favorite game that everyone else abandoned?

So I went and played Evolve again with a couple friends who I didn't know had it and it was an immensely different experience. We were on Teamspeak together so communication was always good. The monster was usually some pub player anywhere from level 8 to 40+ (we're all low levels) and we usually defeated it because we communicated well and had a lot of fun.

So there's definitely a niche for this game if you have friends that play it as it lends to a vastly different experience vs playing with pubs who usually don't even use their mic. I think the game could have had a lot of potential if the publisher didn't get greedy and flood it with DLC. Instead if they pushed out more varied levels and game modes for free to keep interest in the game alive then people would've kept playing.
