when I was 10 I saw my cat give birth...when one of the kittens came out there was this soft ball of blood(placenta?) that the mother cat ate, I was thoroughy disgusted.

LOL!!! Sounds like none of you guys have witnessed a childbirth. Not for the fainthearted for sure; I've been through it few years ago and getting ready to witness it againg in November. I think Jeff Foxworthy said it best: "It looks like a wet St.Bernard trying to get tru a cat door".

My roommate was telling me about when one of his cats gave birth. She ate two of the kittens. Not completely though. Their partially chewed up corpses were in the "litter" with the other kittens. He doesn't know whether they were dead already. I think they were though. In the wild some animals will eat a few of their young to ensure that the mother can provide for the remaining. It's still disgusting though.
