Just curious, do you still use military lingo, even though you are a civilian?
Does having my watch set to military time count?
The 24-hour clock is the way to go. Europe uses it and so should the entire world, IMO. It would make things a lot easier. AM/PM is just lazy bullshit probably invented by lazy Americans (I'm not Googling it, so bite me) just to be different.
I even go out of my way to buy a 24-hour alarm clock just to not have to deal with "Is the "PM" LED on? What fciking time is it, really?" BS.
Seeing 0430 or 1630 on the clock instantly lets me know what time it is...and if I'm late for my shift or not.

lol yeah I'm not even proper military yet and I tend to use a lot of military lingo.
AROTC here. And maybe it's just because I've accepted my future: Army owns my blood, so really no matter what I'm giving them time, and even if something prevents me from graduating, then I'm stuck going enlisted to fulfill my contract.

Don't say stuck and presume that being enlisted is a bad thing. Soon enough you will find out that NCO's truly run the Army.

...and the E-4 Mafia covertly destroys it.

ehh, not used to the concept of a Non-NCO E-4
I guess the Marine equiv of a "E-4 Mafia" is what we call the "Lance Corporal Underground". Something I could describe as the most efficient decentralized intelligence network in the world. Too bad I'm no longer a member.

Meh, not in my platoon. We had some strong squad and team leaders, and a platoon sergeant that would back us up. I hurt plenty of specialists feelings, but a the same time helped quite a few get promoted.

Woah... yeah didn't see I used the word stuck. Didn't mean it as a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination. NCOs are the backbone of the Army and are the ones that get shit done. In my ROTC time I've found that if the pay differential wasn't so massive, I'd much rather go Enlisted just because I know I'm going to hate the politics and paperwork associated with being an officer, and I have more of a deathwish that belongs in an Enlisted heart. Hopefully I get a good branch so I can still entertain my mind enough to make a career out of it.

I have seen plenty of dud E-4s. Hell, I've seen them retire! Those gems that you can make Corporal are rare.
The Army just upped the max years for NCOs on a recent ALARACT.
E-7 26 years
E-7(P) 29 years
E-8 29 years
E-8(P) 32 years (I think)
I dunno if I can stay in more than 26 as an E-8. I mean, I'm 38, coming up on 21 years in the service and I'm about to have my first baby. I might have one last deployment left in me, but I do want to enjoy life. The Army National Guard has been eating my weekends and summers for years but the pay is better, too.
Ah decisions.

Son or daughter? If so, congrats! You should be proud, although I don't think anything in this world is more frightening.
