Little Billy was at the airport with his mommy. They were waiting for Billy's dad to return from a business trip. Little Billy, having recently mastered going potty, tugs on his mother's skirt and says that he has to go to the bathroom. His mom takes his hand and begins taking him towards the women's room when Little Billy, stops and says that he's a big boy now and he wants to go to the men's room by himself. His mother tells him to wash his hands afterwards and Little Billy promises that he will.

Little Billy opens the door and sees a Sailor in his dress whites at the sink. Billy says, "Wow! Are you really a Sailor?" The Sailor looks down at Billy, smiles and puts his white Sailor hat on his head. Little Billy admires himself in the mirror.

All of a sudden a C-130 screams towards the runway. Without landing gear, sparks shoot from it as it skids down the runway. There's a huge explosion and a hatch is kicked open. Out jumps a U.S. Paratrooper dressed in his green class-A uniform, singed and smudged from smoke.

The Paratrooper walks into the airport, kicks down the bathroom door and Little Billy says, "Wow! Are you really a paratrooper?"

The Paratrooper looks down and asks, "Why? You wan't to suck my dick?"

Little Billy says, "Oh! This isn't my hat."

lol yeah I'm not even proper military yet and I tend to use a lot of military lingo.
AROTC here. And maybe it's just because I've accepted my future: Army owns my blood, so really no matter what I'm giving them time, and even if something prevents me from graduating, then I'm stuck going enlisted to fulfill my contract.

Don't say stuck and presume that being enlisted is a bad thing. Soon enough you will find out that NCO's truly run the Army.

...and the E-4 Mafia covertly destroys it.

Meh, not in my platoon. We had some strong squad and team leaders, and a platoon sergeant that would back us up. I hurt plenty of specialists feelings, but a the same time helped quite a few get promoted.

specialists, uh oh. i remember a few of those, a travesty to the rank of e4. corporals are the backbone of the army regardless of what any nco says. at least the fighting army...

Nawh, it's the squad leader now. It seems like 90% of the missions in Iraq are squad sized with a squad leader running them. I ran missions as an E5 for about 3 weeks while my squad leader was on leave, but the E6 runs the show these days.

Depends where you are at. Every one of my missions were platoon sized. Sometimes we would split sections, but typically I would take one section and my platoon sergeant would take the other in those instances.

Going to the Dark Side?

Hehe yeah, gotta make the moneys.. That was my original intent anyways. Got a brief IRR scare tonight. I got orders to muster to a unit, but not deploy.

Although I really wouldn't mind taking a year break and going back to Iraq right now

Even when we ran platoon sized or larger missions, the squad leaders were the mission leaders. Hell, on one of the missions that I ran my first sergeant, commander, and 2 LTC's were all in trucks. Granted, it wasn't an amazing mission...

We were always used to a three man team.
We'd have an buck or staff sergeant , and either 2 e4s or another buck and an e4. Most of the time though, our e4s were corporals. very rare to see a spec. on one of the teams. most of the e4 specialists were either on print teams or broadcast teams, and not on a loudspeaker team.

On a side note, i would like to add my dismay to seeing the army move to a change in uniform that allows the beret as standard issue.
I took pride being able to wear my beret and flash, and tucking my damn dress greens into my shiny as glass boots, and what my tab and wings meant.
the time i spent cutting out that stupid lining, then shaving it with a razor, shaping it, and making it into a statement of my service, now to see everyone with one. breaks my heart. i'm thankful i didn't make a career out of the service, as i don't think i would have gotten over that change.

PSA: It's not military time! It's 24 hour format.

It's only the stupid American-country-in-the-central-region-of-North-America's military that calls it military time.

you actually hit the nail on the head. military time (24 hour format) was introduced because someone realized people in the US Military, much like europeans, are not bright enough to understand the concept of AM/PM, so simplified it.

The city I'm located in has, lets see: Fort Carson, Schriever AFB, Peterson AFB, USAF Academy, Cheyenne Mountain air force station (better known as NORAD) and the various military tech and defense industries (which employ many former military personnel). So about 1 in 10 are either in the service, retired, or work for the military. Even as a civilian, you begin to talk like them.

well...

because that country is the best most powerful country in the world, we can make decisions like that

in any case, it's called military time in america because that's the only subset of america that uses it.
