Wait, so the kid resists arrest, takes the cops baton, beats the cop in the neck, so the cop draws his weapon and fires multiple times. Seems like the definition of self defense.

Is that the officer's version or a witness's version?

I believe there were witnesses. They said the cop looked distraught after the scuffle.

Haha, read the end of the article. Looks like no other cops liked him.

I'm not arguing the ruling/finding. I'm just informing of he ruling/finding.
# of shots seems excessive, but if somebody was hitting me with a baton, I think I might shoot more than once too...

No mag change... If a guy is hitting you in the neck with a baton you'd probably dump the mag too. No way this is excessive.

A baton to the neck/head is considered lethal force. Police are trained to not intentionally strike that area unless you also have the authority to kill them.

Your average citizen may not realize that.

Given all the knockout and head stomping videos around, I wouldn't be too shocked if we civilians on average don't realize that is also lethal force and can be responded in same.

You probably need to reread that section because the police union voted no confidence against Police Chief Flynn, not Manney, for his firing of Manney.

No matter who saw what or how it turns out African Americans distrust our criminal justice system. Period! I know it's hard for white people to understand. It just doesn't matter anymore. It doesn't matter if this cop was protecting himself. He killed a black young man.

My favorite part of this story is how after killing a homeless guy cops already verified was no problem. He goes and claims disability 2 days before being fired. 75% of his salary tax free for life.

Hard to imagine why citizens are getting fed up with their police departments when story after story comes out like this.

Manney also has applied for duty disability, saying the Red Arrow Park shooting and its aftermath resulted in severe post-traumatic stress disorder. He joins a growing number of officers suspected of misconduct who have applied for duty disability claiming debilitating stress, sometimes even citing the department's investigation or media coverage as the cause of that stress.

If approved, Manney's retirement — which would include about 75% of his salary, tax-free — will take precedence over his dismissal because he applied two days before he was fired.

Yea we could see that in evidence in New York when they first were strangling the dude and then jackbooting his head into the concrete. LoL!

Yeah... that's just the cherry on top. What a pile of horseshit. He'll win it too I bet -- power of the union.

Young black thug you mean. This shooting is justified, anyone who says otherwise is ignorant of the facts and has an agenda.

Im sorry, but seems to me the cop man handled the mentally ill black man who then tried to defend himself, after already been shaken down twice that day.
I dont understand how you can say the cop was acting in self defence when he has the gun and the advantage.
If the black guy had a gun, sure, thats self defence!

The report also said the officer suffered post concussion symptoms and mild traumatic brain injuries as well as injuries to his arm. There are two sides to this story.
