June 2010 I started loosing weight. I was 350lbs - size 56 waist.

I started biking back then and walking and eating less. Got to 275 lbs.

Bought a better bike (a cross bike) - started riding with a group - cut sweet drinks (sugar drinks) out of my diet, got down to 210lbs.

Started eating low carb gluten free (at least 90% of the time (I refuse to give up a twice a month fresh scone and coffee), and I dropped to 185lbs.

Started upping the intensity of my workouts. Added running (right at 12-14 miles a week), Biking 40-60 miles per week, and just in the last week or two started swimming. My plan is to bike 1 day, swim the next, run the next, lift weights the next (work on core mostly), and then repeat. I also do two 3 minute planks with alternating 3 points of contact a day (I've been working hard at getting my core stronger).

So since that happened, I passed the 175lb threshold. I'm 5 ft 11inches.

My goal is to get to about 165lbs. Per calipers I'm at 8-9% body fat now (depending on who does it at the gym) - but the results are consistent. I've went from a size 56 to a size 32. I've been doing it monthly.

My plans:

Trying to break my food addictions. I weigh everything. I write everything down. Every other Saturday, I eat what I want within reason (it use to be every Saturday, but that was too often). Tried paleo strict - and for myself - I modified it.

Take paleo, add back legumes and a little rice. Add back fermented dairy (yogurt). Add back oatmeal (the only form of grain I touch), and you have my diet.

Anyway, haven't hit a milestone in a while. Thought I'd share. Anyone out there struggling to loose weight, its just a matter of learning your needs for your activity level.

Good luck, it is a heck of a struggle.

Ironically, I realize that I'll probably need to shed a little muscle to get to 165. I have 'proportionally' huge quads/calves from bicycling. We live in a hilly area, and others have (since I was 260ish) described me as a beast climbing.

Body image? I still look in a mirror and see a fat guy. I don't know why, and I tend not to think about it. I have 'some' loose skin. It is getting better, so much so that I've been taking my shirt off swimming lately. But seriously, I still look the same in my mind. It is when I see a pic or old video of me, I go wow, that was me.

I'm really enjoying running much more than I thought I would, and I'm currently having 'half marathon' dreams. I've noticed most runners are 'smaller' than me, and it makes sense that it would be easier to run longer distances with less weight on my frame.

I'm very goal orientated, and this helps me to not get 'bored'.

As far as dropping 10lbs, I'm going to continue what I'm doing now. I'm currently dropping 1-2lbs a month. I've got my nutrition dialed in, and I can just about tell you what the scale will say a week out.

Impressive results.

I understand what you mean about carrying muscle while running. I ended up shedding about 15lbs of muscle for both basketball and running.

Grats, OP. Very inspiring. My math on this says you've lost ~2 lbs/week during that stretch, which I hear is a fairly ideal rate.

Is your loose skin terrible looking to you? Or acceptable? Is it mostly in your gut?

Initially, it was much faster than that rate but the way down was punctuated with some fairly long plateaus. I remember I was stuck at 240ish for almost 2 months. I finally convinced myself that I had to eat even less, and voila. Mostly learning portion control was the hardest.

Yea, around my belly button - that area. When in plank, there is some hang if you can picture that. A little loose skin on my legs. I'm figuring that in 3 years my body really has not had one chance to catch up with my weight loss. Since I'm near the end, I'm optimistic that the next 3 years will see my body get use to being this size and hopefully some of that loose skin will go away. I hope at least.

I deal with the same feeling. I have lost 70lbs but still see myself as the fat guy I used to be. I dont understand why and I wish I could change the way I see myself but I just cant seem to do so.

Episodic, do us (and yourself) a favor, post before and after pics. Might help you to stop picturing yourself as the fat guy you used to be......and might give incentive to anyone who wants to lose weight, but isn't sure they can.

This is what I did, when I go back and look at old pics I posted in my thread I can't believe that I was as big as I was. Not that my weight loss has been as impressive as yours but it does help being able to look back But I'm also in your boat, Episodic, where I still think I look the same until I go back and look at a picture and it amazes me.

Wow OP. That's awesome! I agree with pics plz! I started looking for before pics after losing 20-30 pounds. At my heaviest I hid from cameras, but now I wish I had more pics so I could better compare myself to today's weight. It's amazing to see the drastic differences in people's weight loss.

If you're below 30, the skin should contract quickly. Older you get, less elastic the skin is.

Congrats dude! You are an inspiration even to me. I thought I was doing well when I went from 220 to 188! Now I have gotten very slack and gained 10lbs. I shall channel your willpower to get to work!
