This is by the Egg's membership newsletter today - need promo code which expires on the 11th. These are among the nicest mid-tower boxes around. Very sturdy, pretty quiet and easy to build out. The only thing I don't like about this version is that the 3.5" external bay is pretty much limited to a floppy drive unless you're willing to cut out the bezel. This case is aka the Yeong Yang YY-5601 (Cetus) - http://www.yycase.com

The R5605, which I prefer, is also on sale for $55. with free ship. Didn't notice it before. Here's the link
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147083 - thanks to gba for the catch.

Here's the link to the item:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...C2D-_-11147038

If you need the promo code, send me a private message. $45. and shipped free.

Looks like an old IBM case. Haven't seen a dedicated Floppy opening in years.

Inside looks comfortable to work with though.

ew, a side intake duct? wtf who still uses those?
+ rosewill aka Newegg's house brand has been known to make low quality products.

sorry if you feel i'm "thread crapping," i'm not, just telling my opinions on this case and past experiences of rosewill. Are negative opinions not allowed in here?

Ive been using/recomending rosewill cases for years...but only around the 30$ range (or even 20$ sometimes). A case is a case, its hard to screw that up, but stuff like power switches and plastic parts like port covers and drive mounts ect have failed. At 45$ I feel I can get a better case (like an antec 300 which drops to the 50$ range fairly often, or a cooler master ect). If this came with a PSU...I actually havent had bad luck with any of theirs (used for lower end systems).

Well, I've been doing small computers for nearly 30 years and this series of YY cases are some of the best I've seen (once sold here for nearly $100.). I did a full review of the 5604 model (which I owned) + an overview of the series on techimo.com (in the User Reviews section) - it was there until they fragged the articles database - the header is still there, but the main text is gone. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate my original... The 5601 model of this series of cases has been around since the '90s, when a floppy was pretty much required. Other models in the series like the 5604, 5605 have a more flexible 3.5" bay. Any device should fit, but those aren't on sale - (ooops, the 5605 is on sale - thanks gba).
The side duct is easily removable and a fan can be mounted in its place with a little effort - I sealed my side opening with plastic wrap - very simple to do as the grille just twist-locks into place and the duct is held by just three screws.
Rosewill cases are actually mfrd by many different companies. Most are your typical, low-end junk boxes, but some are really good: this series, another is the same as the old Antec SLK-3000 and there are a few others from better makers. But you have to know your cases to pick well as they can look quite different from where they were originally seen. Casetec makes some of the better ones and were listed under the Compucase brand as well - IDK if they still carry the Compucase brand (yes they do).

Gentlemen, gentlemen: when Zepper recommends a deal, one is best served to do homework before commenting...

Too, bad about the 5604 review getting wiped.. I remember it well. It was extremely detailed. These YY cases have been tempting me ever since.

Alas, my main box is still an old aluminum Cooler Master RC 631, which, btw, I got on Zepper's first-hand-experience-recommendation over two years ago for $30. Not a perfect case, either... a bit cramped and has some cable management issues... but it was a very, very hot deal for an aluminum case at the time... and since. Furthermore, it is noteworthy to mention that these limitations were pointed out in the op, as they have been in the case of the 3.5" external bay here.

'nuf said.

EDIT:
It looks like the model I have been intested in, the aforementioned 5605 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147083, the model with the more flexible 3.5" bay (and a look I happen to prefer) has gone on sale, too. Newegg has it for $54.99 + FS... and they are throwing in a cute $9.99 four port USB 2.0 hub. Nice deal. All these cases lack IMO is a front eSATA port and too bad they left the reset switch off of the 5605. *must resist*

Good catch gba.

The 5605 is on sale but wasn't mentioned in the Egg members' letter. I would definitely pop for that one at $10.00 more and free ship too.

Also I see that one version of the Rosewill Conqueror (the same as one Silverstone model - the {SST-PS01 IIRC) is on sale and has the shipping reduced to $10. It's one of the better Rosewill cases too.

Those "Elite" cases are made of thin metal and are significantly smaller than the YY cases. The 560x has room for the long vid cards.

The Antec SLK-3000 was a great mid tower... the first case I ever encountered that took 120mm fans. Newegg kept having superb deals on them, as well. Here's the link for the nostalgic - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-152-_-Product

Yup, the Rosewill R6A series and the Compucase 6A series are basically the same as the 3000, so you can still have one if you want. And one of the Tt aluminum cases is built on the same specs too.

OK, thanks, that is really interesting... I somehow missed this bit of wisdom. I should have been hanging out on case forums more than I have...

Unfortunately, having done a quick check, I am not seeing any R6A series models left at Newegg (I could very well be looking right at anything and still miss it, though). However, I did find a link to the deactivated R6AR6-SL -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147045

Neither could I find any of the Compucase 6Ax's pictured here -> http://www.hec-group.com.tw/pccase/6a/

I mean, if I were going to buy a mid tower case, I probably would just get the R5605, but it is fascinating finding out about these various related products. TA

gba,

On Newegg under Cases/Cases/Compucase there are a couple of 6A models and one 6X which you may notice as similar to the original Sonata and some of the early quiet series of Antec cases (sidesaddle HDD drawers). I don't think the sidesaddle cases cool as well as the 6A because the front fan mount is on the back of the HDD cage. The 650x series of cases has the front fan mount in front of the HDD cages and it can hold a 38mm fan if desired (with slight modding).

Rosewill was carrying similar under the R6A and R6X prefixes, but I haven't seen many for a while. These cases aren't very deep - deeper are more popular now due to the long vid cards, but these are top classic designs.

The Tt Tsunami is the one based on the 3000 design.

My CoolerMaster Elite 330 has enough room for a VisionTek HD4850 video card, reference design.

These cases look like the older Asus cases. If I remember correctly same guys made these cases looking at the fan outtake. Very nice cases indeed.

Thanks, found the Compucase 6As. It is nice to know the classic Antec SLK-3000 design is still breathing. Thanks, too, for the info about the fan being mounted to the HD cage on the 6X models, as it is not obvious from the photos. I found a 6X model with a front eSATA port that is yet to be reviewed... and at $125 shipped, it may just be that one is yet to be sold (telling of how hot the R560x deals in the OP are). Here it is -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-088-_-Product

Another bit of teary-eyed nostalgia re: the Antec SLK-3000. It was neat watching the three HD LEDs plus the power LED when booting my dual channel SCSI system.. How cool were those four LEDs doing their dance? I just found an invoice for a bronze one I bought on 12/24/03:

1 Antec Solution SLK3700AMB Metallic bronze Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350Watt(SL350)Smart Power Power Supply - Retail
Item #: N82E16811129122 $65.00

Subtotal $65.00
Tax $0.00
FedEx Express Saver $0.00
Order Total $65.00

I forget what the rebates would typically be $30 or $40(?)... cannot remember exactly. I just remember the net cost being about the same as what the SL350s cost when bought alone.

Put a fancy bezel on that 6X and charge 50% more for it (you can get the aluminum Tsunami for less). Should include a PSU at that price - HEC PSUs are decent. IAC, those old designs are too shallow. Since the reason you're looking at cases is to get a bit more clearance for your mobo, these old Antec brothers won't do it for you...
