Well, according to T-Mobile's website, my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900T now reports:
Your device is blocked and will not work on T-Mobile’s network. If you think this is an error, please call Customer Care at 1-877-453-1304.

It used to report that it was unrecognized, as if it was never associated with an account:
We do not recognize the IMEI number you entered. Please try again or contact Customer Care at 1-877-453-1304.

If it were associated with an account and was in good standing, it would have said this:
Congratulations! Your device is ready for use. Select one of the SIM cards on the previous page to get started.

I thought that being unrecognized was better than being recognized but in good standing because it wasn't associated with any account and, thus, couldn't be blocked for non-payment, so what happened?!

I think T-Mobile is auditing and blocking IMEIs for not being sold with an account. The thing is, I bought the phone out right and flat-out refused to sign up for T-Mobile service. I own the phone and it isn't subsidized, so why the heck should I be forced to use their service for 45 days before I can even request an unlock?! Even then, they can take up to 7 days and they don't even have to approve it. When it's *MY* property, that's ridiculous! The whole reason I bought it from NegriElectronics.com was because I intended to use it with AT&T before T-Mobile but the T-Mobile store would not let me buy it without service. This shouldn't be legal!

I checked the IMEI of an in-store display model and it was also unrecognized just like mine (not associated with a customer account). Another Negri customer with an "unrecognized" IMEI actually got a call from T-Mobile asking them how they obtained the phone but I obviously didn't because I don't have a number in their system and am not connected to their network. I'm pretty sure they are now auditing and blocking phones that weren't sold with contracts because this was no different than a display phone as far as they were concerned.

*grumble grumble grumble*

I called the number and they gave me the usual crap about not being able to give me any details because it is account-specific information. I called them on their bull and pointed out that it is not because it was never associated with an account and I hadn't even given them the IMEI yet for them to claim that it was! All that did was get the rep to say something like "Oh. Well, I encountered this once before and my supervisor said I couldn't give that information anyway." That means they don't even have an excuse! All she could suggest was going to a T-Mobile store, which just told me to contact the reseller (Negri).

Think 4.4.2 will happen on the Verizon model before hell freezes over?

I was going to ask if they'd ever updated. I'm not even on Verizon now (I'm using StraightTalk with an AT&T SIM, it shows up as an AT&T Note 3 on Google's end apparently since when I choose devices to install in the Play Store that's how it shows up now...), but haven't done anything about it so it still boots with the Verizon logo and has all the Verizon annoyances so I'm still waiting for Verizon to update unless I want to fuss with AOSP which I frankly don't right now.

Is there anything tangible to be gained from the update? I forget if it includes TRIM (or if its already there)? That would be the main thing I'd probably do it for since none of the other things I care about that much from what I remember.

If Nokia hadn't gimped their phones in annoying ways, I'd consider trading it for one of theirs. Guess we'll see what the Note 4, iPhone 6, whatever Nokia comes up with, and maybe some other dark horse brings in the fall.

4.4.2 finally being released by AT&T via OTA today

Thanks...Downloaded and installed...fixed the GPS issue and another issue I had when using GPS via bluetooth in my car (the first few seconds of the the GPS voice instructions would not come over the speaker when music was playing).

Finally, after 6 months I have fully functioning phone now

TRIM was included in 4.3 so you're good there. From what I hear, it's mostly just the mildly updated KK UI, some anecdotal feelings that the phone is "snappier", and at least on AT&T, no HCE.

Negri is not an official retailer and gets that model of phone off the grey market. What happened is the account that was tied to the original purchase of that phone is now bad so T-Mobile has blocked all phones related to that account. T-Mobile doesn't care what phone you use as long as it isn't tied to a T-Mobile account in bad standing. Your issue is with Negri not T-Mobile. Hopefully you are within the 25 day return period.

Negri even has a web site detailing it:
http://www.negrielectronics.com/blo...ed-imeis-and-why-t-mobile-says-theyre-stolen/
"We purchase inventory from a variety of sources, including authorized T-Mobile and other carrier resellers. Unfortunately, some industry participants have chosen to obtain devices from individuals that are knowingly selling a device purchased on-contract"

I dont care. After getting my galaxy tab pro 8.4 yesterday and the horror that is 4.4.2. and the app2SD issue (all fixed with rooting BTW) I will NOT be updating my VZW (using tmobile settings) note 3 to kitkat.

DITTO your post except for timeline and sub tab 8.4.for note 12.2.

Of course not that there's any danger of VZW being speedy with the update. For once, that's a good thing.

This is why I rather go buy the device at T-Mobile corporate store and not some 3rd party reseller like Negri or Ebay. Cause they sell you the phone, then later claim the device was stolen, then you are SOL.

They didn't give me the option. Not only did they refuse to sell it to me without service despite me offering to buy it for full price, they charged more than other T-Mobile stores were charging ($791 at launch after tax). I'm not ready to leave my grandfathered unlimited data plan with AT&T.

so, should t mobile have to respect the phone as your property if the original purchaser purchased it fraudulently? (not saying this happened with you-but it happens a lot, and this is a lot of the phones you find on third party retailer web sites)

I kinda want to trade my Note 3 for one of the first gen Surface Pro "refurbs" and maybe a Moto G or one of the Nokia phones (or and older iPhone) since the latter would be good enough for my needs. I like the Note 3 quite a bit, but its a lot more phone than I really use (I seriously barely use a phone beyond simple texting, occasional pics and calls and internet use).

Alright, good to know.

Anyone else with a Tmo Note 3 have big battery life regression following the 4.4.2 update? Seems to be an issue for a lot of folks. Apparently some of the apps constantly access the camera (!??!), keeping the device awake and needlessly using the CPU.

With light usage, I actually hit the 3 day mark a few times w/o a recharge before the "upgrade" to Kit Kat. After the update, I got maybe 1.5 days. Following suggestions on the net, I installed the latest version of Skype, which apparently does something to limit camera access (I don't really understand how this affects other how other apps interact with the camera). I'm back up to 2 days, but I still get quite a bit of android system and android OS use on the battery--often times 1.5X the battery used by the screen.

Rumors are that 4.4.3 is coming soon to fix the issue, but Google is also claiming that Samsung is in part to blame for this. Too bad you can't go back to Jelly Bean until they figure this out. If you haven't yet updated, I'd hold off for a few weeks to see what 4.4.3 has to offer.

Hi, everyone,

I just grabbed a Verizon Note 3 via Swappa. It's coming soon--are there any issues I should pay particular attention to before I gift it to my brother?

Some screens have a bluish tint at the bottom.
And the home button is sometimes a bit loose.

Make sure your proximity sensor works properly. My VZW note 3 has a flakey sensor. A lot of times the screen wont automatically come back on when I move my face from the phone during a call. A shot of air in the earpiece usually clears it up but its a PITA.

Yay! I just tried it out, and no problems. My brother is going to love it (he's still rocking a galaxy nexus) , but I don't think I could get used to the extra girth vs my gs3. The pen is cool, but that's why I bought a surface pro.
