Has there been any more news on the release date of this beast for US carriers? Wonder if it's going to come out in Dec again like the Note II did.

I am a bit tempted to get the Note 3... but my Note 2 is still great... especially with the Jedi Custom Rom... fast and has great battery!

Well, guys, I (the OP) bought an iPhone 5 the day before yesterday...

...because some genius (my coworker) decided to upgrade to the even more interative iPhone 5S and sell it to me for a price that will help me buy my Note 3 when I resell it.

Honestly, is a fingerprint sensor and a 64-bit CPU worth upgrading for if the only thing you do is Instagram, Vine, and Candy Crush Saga?!

Yes, because you get the updated camera for Instagram + Vine. He didn't upgrade his phone, he upgraded his camera.

AT&T will have the handset on Oct. 1 for $299.99
T-Mobile will have the Note 3 on Oct. 2 for a $199.99 down payment
Sprint will have it on Oct. 3 for $349
Verizon will have the Note 3 on Oct. 10 for $299.

As a Note 2 user, I was going to skip the 3. But having recently coming into a little extra money, I am excited about getting the 3. Higher resolution, better screen & camera, improved s-pen, & 3gb of ram. Sounds awesome to me.

I mean, if you really think about it, is it worth any upgrade for what we really do with our phones? LoL.

Seriously? Instagram and Vine compress the crap out of your images and any real benefit is lost. I highly doubt he paid hundred to get better skin tones for his Instagram pics that get ruined with a stupid filter anyway.

I've actually only seen him message with Instagram and view other people's Vines.

Coming from a Gingerbread Xperia PLAY: Yes. VERY much.

LTE, multi-core, usable browser, useful screen size, better OS, ... the list of stuff I want/need goes on and on. Absolutely nothing to do with "epeen."

Yea because you're almost three years out with that phone.

For me, my mobile needs have reversed my tech-buying habits a bit. I realize now that I spend WAY more time using my smartphone than I do my laptop or desktops. So the idea of the same smartphone for two years of a contract is getting more and more absurd.

I'll update my laptop and desktop computers even though, truth be told, I could still do most tasks I need on a 2009 era version of either thing. But let's face it, we all love having even more speed/features/graphic power/etc.

So why should I settle for less when it comes to a device I use more than the others?

The negatives to this are of course buying a non-subsidized phone will cost a lot, but the upside is the resale on the replaced device should somewhat offset that. So long as I can get a halfway decent price for my Note 2, I'll be perfectly fine with paying the difference for the Note 3.

The N3 is pretty much what I wish the N2 had been, so for me getting one is a no-brainer. If the N4 comes out next year and has more to offer, then I'll be on track to trade up at the subsidy price, and profit from selling the N3.

Low light pics are enhanced dramatically. I might post stuff to Instagram/vine, but I have all the raw unedited stuff saved on my computer in case I want to print too.

The tech has plateaued a bit, going to sit out a year with the Note 2. Am really happy with it.

Yeah, camera wise it's probably not worth getting until your phone of choice has OIS (and the software front end to support it fully), and 4k video at a good bit rate. (mainly for the freedom to edit the video rather than having a 4k video at the end of the process).
SOC and screen wise we are already at the level where there should be plenty to suit anyone's need.

My wife is looking to buy the Note 3 in Hong Kong

http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/smartphone/SM-N9005ZKATGY

we're planning to switch to T-Mobile and if she does buy the Note 3 over there, But I would like to make sure the phone will work with T-Mobile's LTE spectrum if she does buy the phone over there. However, based on the link above, it doesn't seem like it will work with T-Mobile's LTE band 4. can someone verify?

we're in the NYC area

Thanks

PSA, there's a glitch in Verizon's matrix, allows grandfathered unlimited plans to upgrade, and keep your unlimited data, just ordered a Note 3, will see if they cancel it or tell me I have to lose my unlimited data.

Some of the unlocked Note 3 models are apparently region locked so you may want to wait until more information is available on what is going on with this.

Thank you. I've been following this debacle. It seems to have been an attempt to block gray-market imports, especially because the restriction is supposed to go away after it it initially activated with the correct-region SIM. Samsung and many others are wrongly pretending that it's not a problem after it is activated with a SIM from the correct region but there are many reports of Asian SIMs (Thailand, in particular) still not working even after the region restriction is supposedly released. Paying for an unlock code correctly allows all region use including the same Asian SIMs. US<->EU are not the only two regions that matter, Samsung! Don't lie to us to placate us through our return periods like Apple tried to do with the iPhone 4 issues!

If she can, I would suggest getting the T-Mobile variant to start with. It has the widest band support and will probably be the only one to have an unlocked bootloader. My question earlier about which to get for use between AT&T and T-Mobile was answered by this:

thanks, looks like the LTE version in HK does not support t-mobile's LTE band at all, she would've loved to buy that one due to possibly better Chinese support in the native software

I think a lot of the Note1 users went to a 2. I have seen literally *one* original Note in the wild. In the US it was only offered on AT&T. The Note2 was on every major carrier at release. Hell I have 5 of them within 10 feet of me at work. I think a lot of those 2's are staying put for another year.

Just my opinion.

Me too, just the guy next to me in Accounting had a Note 1.
I see note 2's all over the place.

I finally got to play with the Note 3 yesterday at an AT&T store. The screen looks fantastic and it feels much nicer in the hand. I originally was going to go straight to the Note 3 right away but after playing with it for 20 minutes, I really wasn't itching to upgrade like I did before.

I want something new (just because I have a problem) but the Note 2 is still a pretty good device.

Coming from a Note 2 as well, I gave the other players a try with the G2 being the strongest competitor. However I decided to go with the Note 3 as after using a Nexus 4 for a while, the downstep in screen size is noticeable. After playing with the N3 in store, I'm satisfied with it. The screen looks sharper and brighter than the Note 2 and the slimmer/lighter body is a nice plus.

It was like the N2 was a 3rd gen device, seems like the N3 is just a traditional 1 generation removed from the N2.
