Every time I start my system, my monitor is cut off about 1/8" top and bottom. Looks as if the image was pushed outwards. After it warms up, it then shrinks back to normal.
(Takes about 30 minutes)
Anyone experience this ? Is this normal

Viewsonic A90f+. Only 4 days old Radeon 9700 pro ,1280 x 1024 @85Hz

Yes, you can consider this a fairly normal phenomena. Afterall, we are talking about CRT monitors. My Sony G520 does not suffer from this; however, my Samsung 900NF does.

I wonder why some monitors are prone to such behavior while others aren't ?
Better quality perhaps . Some Sony's seem to have that pattern too , according to some reviews I've read.

I, too, have a Sumsung.....syncmaster 750s. I do not experience this problem at all. Actually, this monitor has lasted a surprisingly long time without any problems at all.

When my Philips 109B2 is first turned on, as the PC's BIOS is going through the POST, the image on the screen will be significantly "expanded" in all directions, so much of it is thus cut off. After a few seconds, the problem rectifies itself, and the screen shrinks down to the proper size that I have set with the OSD controls.

The highest quality monitor makers say don't make any screen adjustments until after a 1/2 hour warm-up.

No this is not normal behavior. Also it depends on the resolution and refresh rate you are running. If you are using a res/ref that is not stored in the monitors memory or is above the manufacture recommended this may happen. Also monitors with poor power supply designs are prone to this phenomena.

Monitors do take about 30 minutes to warm up and stabilize, however the image should at least be centered during the first 30 minutes.

Running at 1280x1024@85hz, which is recommended by the manufacturer.
Thinking about returning it. Bummer, I like this monitor otherwise. Sharp text, very good graphics
Oh well !
