Well I was hoping day and night difference; but it turn out it is not much of a difference between to guys, unless you want cutting edge (mind though now crown is now to 7890 in ATi GPU)
I ran Unigine Engine Heaven Benchmark I got not whole lot of difference
In General it Dindn't feel differen either. I guess I need to more research or it could be drivers issue ?

I'm surprised you even got a 6950, I'd be shocked if anyone on this forum recommended that upgrade. The performance increase would only be like 15%, the only real benefit is the extra VRAM if you got the 2gb version. The drivers aren't an issue, it wasn't that big of an upgrade besides the tesselation.

6 series just improved on tess performance and gave AMD a real DX11 card.

Depending on the game you could see large gains or pretty "meh" ones.

You went from a high end card to a mid range only one generation apart from eachother, a poor choice that's all.

a 6950 and 5870 are very close in performance execpt in tesselation, which the 6950 is more powerful.

Balla and BD beat me to it.

Apart from Tess the increase in performance is less than 5% and neither is good enough for maxed out tesselation at 1080p. This was a side grade

I went from a 5850 to 6970. Anything with less increase in performance isn't even an upgrade. Going from a 5870 oc to 6970 oc makes no sense, little performance difference. 5870 to 580 makes sense

6950 Vs 5870
Unigine Heaven Benchmark
10.8 Min FPS 8.2 24%
78.7 Max FPS 81.8 3.9% 6950 is Slower
28.6 FPS 24.9 12.9%
719 Score 626 12.9

Poor Choice Yes No doublt! :$
I never knew 69XX is a Midrange I thought 68XX is a midrange
But sure enough I had learning curve

I dunno in Heaven Bench mark I see no more then 15% difference in General :hmm:

5870 Didn't do that bad of a tesselation at 1080p

6950 was the performance card, not mid range, more like mid end. 6970 was high end and 580 was the ultra high end card

the 1GB 6950 doesn't unlock. only the reference design 2GB models, and not all of them.
be careful not to brick your card.

A 1gb card is considered mid range or " value " part by today's standards.

6950 is essentially 2GB. They also introduced a cheaper 1GB variant later. But most 6950s are 2GB and the reference ones often unlock to 6970.

How can a size of frame buffer memory will put a card to mid range
I always have understanding what define card position is following
Core Speed of Video Card Chipset
Pixle per Clock
Gen of the Video card chipset relationship to Direct X and shader model
Speed of the Video Card Memory
Video Card memory Interface
Video Card memoru Xfare rate (DDR to GDDR5)
I never knew Vga frame buffer size can play role from Midrange card to Highend card!

I can see the 1gb being a value card as opposed to the 2gb version due to the GPU power vs's the frame buffer. At 1080p it will become possible to have more GPU power than the VRAM, essentially cutting the usefulness of the card itself. If you have a 2gb card you can maximize your VRAM usage and not run out before your GPU power does. Unfortunately a 1gb frame buffer will run out of VRAM at 1080p+ if you turn the settings high on titles such as Crysis,Metro 2033, BF3, etc.

I thought frame buffer is really a BUFFER for GPU to put the done work there.
Now, My primary display is throgh DVi connection which max out at 1900 X 1200 at True color. My secondry display is off built in IGP via VGA connectin at display max out at 1280 X 1200 at True Color. My IGP is 4290 with 128 Dedicated DDR2/3 memory.
So I guess at this point over 1 GB is not usefull for my Need ?

I wanted to see how well these cards would do in Direct X 10
Since 3D mark does use CPU and it makes a difference amount of RAM, MB Chipset, so I run on excat same system.
6950 3D Mark Score 18567
5870 3D Mark Score 18353
Difference 1.15% :$
Here is 6950

and Here is 5870

Off to research how to unlock shaders!

Seems like 5870 is just right behind with 6970 amazing isn't it :|

Not even 2% (1.9) difference in 3D mark score

Here is 3D mark 11 test but, this test has run different machines
5870 on Xeon 3100 (E8400) with 4 Gig and 6950 on AMD PII 1055T with 8 Gig.
Here are the results
6970 (Aka 6950 only shadder unlocked)

Graphic Score 4729 for 6970 and 5870 did 4305 in Graphic score and difference is not even 10% (8.96%)

Wow I think I should have waited and jump on 7980 or Nvida 680 :ninja:

PS : BTW SolMiester are you around
