Has anyone bought the MSI 6600GT, and if so, are you happy with it? The Anandtech review mentioned a weak bond between board and heatsink, that could be knocked off if you're not careful with it. Are the temps and noise ok in your opinions?

DONT BUY THIS CARD !!!

I just returned mine to the store today because it was overheating like crazy. I had the MSI pci-e 6600 GT in my Asus SLI - Deluxe mobo and was getting temps of excess 120 C +. Not only was the cooling horrible and my games kept locking up, but the software that came along with the card, like hardware monitor and overclocker were just terrible (they were flash based programs that you accessed through the net). The card also looked very cheap and poorly made, with no heatsinks on the memory.

I would never buy an MSI card again. I returned mine and got the Asus 6600 GT pci-e card and it runs very smoothly, with lower temps, and the card itself is much higher quality, with heatsinks on the memory.

Good luck.

Jim, are you looking into the AGP or PCIe? Two totally different cards with totally different cooling systems.

I have the AGP, very nice card. Has heat sink on the core and the memory. Runs cool and clocks very well. Have not had any issues with it, runs like a champ.

It seems to be the PCIe thats' having some issues, not the AGP.

Only down side is there is no way to check your temperature, so you have to use an external probe.
Other than that, its all good.

MSI makes a lot of good products but their PCI-E cards really are sadly bad. I have a set of Gigabyte 6600 GT's and I really like them it was two for five hundred but I am sure if you look for a while you will be able to find them for less. I chose to buy those after trying out the BFG?s. The BFG?s are nice cards but when it came to the over all look and feel and control in my opinion the Gigabytes are the one?s to go for. Especially if you have the matching Gigabyte NVIDIA nforce 4 SLI in my opinion it is also the best board on the market. It has A Dual Bios and also has A Dual power system and runs like a dream.
www.newegg.com has the 3000 AMD 64?s For under 160 dollars.

you can always try a liquid cooling system frozencpu has some for a reasonable price. For all of you who like to OverClock thier systems

I love mine so far too. AGP as well. The software bundle is crazy. It's like over a hundred dollars worth of stuff. I also agree that the card itself is both heavy and solid. My system is quieter than it was with my GF4. Haven't OC'd it yet though.

I was looking at the PCIe version, but after hearing what I have, I think I'll look to another brand....thanks everyone!

wow luckily I never bought MSI graphics card before, they're much better at motherboards, but even with motherboard I'll go for Asus instead.

I have 2 MSI 6600GT and my temps never go over 40 C. and im over clocked to 590/1165. I have never had a game lock up on me or crash either. I have been running this for about a month now with out any problems. Almost reached 6000 in 3dmark 05 and havent had a problem.
