I just got one for $10IR and $50MIR.
We'll see if the rebate shows up on the page, if not I will just return the damn drive.

no go for me either... They tried to ring it up at $119.99 and said there's a $40 rebate. I told them it's expired.. den the guy told me to go online w/ their comps to ck.. i did.. and still couldn't find the "new" rebate.. so I went back n told him.. den he told another sales rep to look online.. he couldn't find it.. went to ask his manager.. and the manager told him that the rebate's just not up yet!! :frown: I think he's just making sh*t up..! Oh well.. i got it from CC (City of Industry, CA) a couple hrs before that.. $80 something after tax.. i'm happy..

Well..I got one..but all they would do is the $10IR and said if rebate not up by the end of the week they will give my the extra MIR off..well the website now says no active rebate..so tomorrow this goes back if I do not get the instant $50..and try CC PM

I should have raised hell tonight but I hate the aggravation...If return it costs them transaction fees..so there loss not mine..very poor business practices..it is amazing they stay in busineess why I now hate Compusa....that and the restocking fees...

at least CC has gotten rid of that crap

CompUSA Price: $139.99
Manufacturer: Western Digital
Mfg Part #: WD800JBRTL
Product Number: 294555

There is nothing about the rebate but it is on the new in store specials. Meets my $1 for GB standard.

Offer good from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12. Happy hunting.

Edit: Review from storage review

Edit2: There should be a $50 rebate with the drive but it is not to be found. Some people have reported that the stores are giving them the drive for the $79.99 price but I had no luck. There is a $10 IR. I did see them bring up a webpage with the $50 rebate but they couldn't get the pdf.

Link to page with rebate but it doesn't have the pdf yet.

***HOTTER*** Thanks to GaraSensei

Price match it to CC for 110% of the difference. It seems that CU is starting to give the full $60 as an IR because of no rebate form. I just picked it up for $77.69 after tax and 110% pricematch from CC.

Circuit City Receipt I can post a better copy if anyone wants it.

***** Possibly even hotter *****

If CU is selling it for $79.99 right off the shelf, then it is a possibility you could still get the rebate. They just screwed up and forgot to post it, but I assume it will be up tomorrow. IF this is true then we are looking at a $29.99 price after MR. Just a thought for anyone who got it for $79.99 at CU. This would make it a killer deal.

*******Its true..Jax Fl CompuSa sold them today for 79.99 because the rebate wouldnt show up and the ad wording is unclear as to whether this is a mir deal or IR deal...so I got 2 of em.. there was at least 10-20 more on the overflow shelf and empty on the stock shelves... PS CuSa is now showing a 50.00 rebate in the rebate center, but the pdf file is not yet linked...keep looking..Rebate Center

CC Trip: I ordered online and went to pick up order. CC worker got 80 Gig HD and finished my transaction. Then, I bring out the CUSA ad. She stared at the ad over and over and became fixated at the asterisk next to the $79.99. She got asked the manager and the manager stared at me and then just walked past me and the worker proceeded supposedly call CUSA. After 20 minutes, she stated that CUSA told her about the rebates and therefore she couldn't price match it. I directed her back to my copy of the CUSA Ad stating that the savings would apply if I brought in the Ad to CUSA and therefore CUSA offered the HD for the price of $79.99. She proceeded to ramble on about this being an internet rebate offer and that the CUSA call confirmed the presence of a rebate but I pointed out that the CUSA Ad stated in-store price only just by bringing in the Ad and that there was no current available rebate on the CUSA site (and that the rebate offered was expired). I refused to budge and she went to another guy who went on the internet with the in store computer and checked CUSA site to try to verify the rebate and nullify the price match. Well, 15 more minutes past and the CUSA website was still stalling and did not produce any rebate. She then told me that she was sorry but could do nothing about it and that she needed proof that CUSA offered the drive at $79.99. From the look on her face, I knew there was no way of getting a price match. Disappointed, I left for CUSA. Total Time: 35-40 minutes.
Result: Ordered drive online and returned drive in store.

CUSA Trip: I got a CUSA boy to get the HD. Then I bring out CUSA Ad showing $79.99. He went "oh" and told me that he had no more rebates and for me to go home and print it out. I told him "can you print it out for me." And so he goes through the motions on the CUSA website and clicks away. Then he tells me oops we only have a $50 and $40 rebate. And he proceeds to print out the $40 rebate. One look at the rebate and I see that it's expired on October 5, 2002 and I tell him on the spot. So, he gets a CUSA female to get the real rebate. She goes in the office to use the computer and fails. Then the wannabe assistant manager comes by and the CUSA female tells me that he will get the rebate. 20 minutes later I ask a nicer CUSA lady to check on the manager and she complies and tells me he'll be out soon ... that he's getting the detail regarding the $20 instant rebate and the $40 mail in rebate. 15 minutes he tells me to give me my phone number ... addresss ... name ... that he has no rebates. By this time, I was not taking more of this runaround crap. I pointed to the Ad which stated bring in the ad and get special savings ... WD 80 GB HD at $79.99 ... and no mention of any rebates. I took out my printout showing that it was in stock and expected that price. I said "If it's a rebate ... give it to me ... give me the proof." He said "sorry ... give me your name and address and I'll mail it to you when I get it." And I replied "what happens if you are not able to get the rebate before it expires and I end up paying more than the Ad $119 vs $79 ... won't I be ripped off?" He proceeded to fool around with the CUSA website trying to get the non-existant rebate and stalled for another 20 minutes. I followed him around and he went to 2 other computers which was not giving him any result. Finally, I said "why don't you write me a contract stating that you will give me $40 if I don't get the rebate form in time." He said "NO!" Why I asked. He said "I don't want to be liable ... just wait for me to mail you the rebate." I then compromised "why don't you cut out my UPC and copy my receipt and give me the $40 discount + $20 instore rebate upfront ... and that you [wannabe manager] could send in the rebate when he got the forms." He replied "NO! THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS!" I inquired excitedly "You expect me to have faith in receiving the rebate in time before it expires ... without your signed word to this effect .... and yet you don't have the confidence to take my UPC and getting the rebate yourself." He pissed "THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS ... I WILL NEVER GIVE YOU THE $79.99 PRICE!" I asked "So, are you denying me the offered price in your AD?" He went "NO ... Just give me your name and address." I replied "I definitely need a contract signed by you stating that you will give me $40 if I don't get my rebate form in time to qualify." Basically we were in a stand still. Both him and I were tired, pissed. I was probably more pissed due to the 1 1/2 hours I spent trying to buy this one HD which was in stock for the AD price. However, he had customers to deal with and he finally wrote a contract signed stating that he promises to give me $40 instore rebate if I don't receive the rebate form in time. However, he tried to trick me and get out of potential liability by signing one side of the paper and not the side containing his written promise ... so I made him sign the side on of his promise and he grudgingly complied.
Total time: 1 1/2+ hours.
Result: $119+tax and waiting for rebate. Plus, a written contract guaranteeing my $40.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It's obvious that these Price Matching and Low Price Guarantees are very difficult and if not impossible to get these days. I'm tired by these corporate false advertising campaigns. Let's call in the lawyers and file a class action lawsuit. The desired result should aim for:
(1) making it more attractive for individual store managers to grant Price Matching/Low Price Guarantees by compensating them for these transactions instead of penalizing them. Or,
(2) make these deceivers take back their lying policy which causes us so much wasted time and unnecessarily raises our blood pressure.
I don't care if I don't see one cent back from the lawyers ... I don't care if only the lawyers are the only ones getting rich if we gain a victory ... I just want these corporations to make right on their promises and to quit lying. I'm sure some of you are feeling the same way ... probably for a long time.

Anyone want to post a copy of their receipt? I will host. It might help people in getting this thing for the advertised price.

beeebeeebeee - It sucks you couldn't score one of these drives today. I have a strange feeling that we will see the pdf file for the rebate tomorrow which will kill the deal. I might go bitch some more tomorrow, but someone just pm'd saying that he might be able to take a picture of their receipt and I told him don't bother to go through the trouble. Should I pm him back to see if he can still do it? Is anyone interested in a copy of a receipt for $79.99 from CU? I would love to go in on a lawsuit. I am going to talk to a friend of mine who is a lawyer to see what he thinks about the situation. I don't know what kind of law he pratices, but he might shed some light onto the situation.

Optoman, I did get a drive for $119 and should be guaranteed the $40 price difference (if the pdf doesn't show up, you might catch me on Judge Judy winning my case against the manager trainee since I have a signed contract) ... unfortunately I wasted my whole Sunday afternoon.

Please ask your lawyer friend what type of evidence we need. Are consumer complaints enough? I do have a witness friend who saw me through the whole transaction. I'm sure we can get more than 20 people signed up which I think is the minimum amount needed for a class action suit.

You might actually make out okay since the rebate is for $50, if we ever see it. I think we don't have a case if Crapusa shows up with a rebate tomorrow. The manager at my store told me the same thing about them giving the difference back at the end of the week if the rebate doesn't show. I am ticked off on how they handled the whole thing. It is the switch and bait thing going on if you ask me. I went to the store because of their advertised price. I left the store not receiving the drive at the advertised price, instead I got a promise (which isn't legal since it was oral) for the extra money off later. There has to be something there.

Went in today and waited 15 minutes for a free attendant. I did spot a guy in a red shirt and asked him to get it for me but it turned out he worked for Bally

After they put the drive on the counter it rang up as $140. I asked him about an IR and MIR so he goes on a little run around trying to find the rebate. 20 minutes later I have my drive, the -$20 IR, and was told to wait for their site to update for their MIR. Here's to hoping for that rebate.

WOW,
never did realize this would be such a hassle. What I did was went in this afternoon about 1.30pm. None on shelf, asked if there is any, brought out some, sort of like 10-20, went to the cashier, he asked "Do u know about the deal?", I say "yeah, there is a rebate for it", he just said "We'll give it to u for the after rebate price so u won't have to deal with the rebate, isn;t that cool? I might get 2 for myself after work"....haha....that was cool........never thought some other store will not honor it. Well, still wish they would update their page with that rebate form.

I went to CC (Tukwila, WA) this afternoon after my IBM drive died and picked up one for $80 and some change after tax. Total time in CC, maybe 15 mins. I picked up the drive, the lady asked to ring it up, I showed her CUSA's ad and she looked to see if it was a manufature rebate. After about 5 min., she couldn't find anything and asked her MGR if it was acceptable. He said yes, and I'm now the proud owner of a WD SE HDD. I might go back tomorrow, it's a damn good deal.

False advertising! It says $50.00 bucks on that page! If I wasn't getting this drive for 39.99 after rebate I would be outraged! more so....
Since I already opened and install the drive I got pricematched at CC I am going to use its UPC label until I decide what to do with the compusa one. So ends the compusa deal for all IR. Nothing stopping you guys from getting a PM at CC though! Everyone who got tricked into taking a $10.00 IR and a promise of a $50.00 rebate looks like its time to BBQ some CU managers

You really have to wonder how they managed to screw the deal up so much and how none of the stores seem to know about unadvertised specials?

Just got back from CU and the deal is back to warm at my location (Orlando). The shelf price was $140 then reduced to $120 at the register. Asked them for a rebate form, hoping none was available and within a minute or so, was presented a freshly printed $40 rebate with 10/6-10/12 dates. So, after tax in my area, the deal is appx $88.40 AR. Nice drive for the money but may return it. Hate to lend money to CU or any manufacturer because that is basically what rebates are...worse than that because there is always the risk of it getting lost in the mail, forgetting about it or having to argue with the fulfillment center.

Oooh...now THIS IS fun. I'm not a lawyer, but I spent enough time around the Law school and with Lawyers to know the system.

This is false advertising. Plain and simple.

I'm going to CUSA today to see what will happen. I will quietly carry in the supporting documents, and ask for them to print the rebate for me. If they hand me a $40 rebate (which, we know, they will), I will quietly inform them that this is not the advertised special, and what will they do about it? If nothing, I will cancel the sale, quietly drive home, and call the Kentucky Attorney General's office. It just-so-happens I know one of their lawyers (I do a LOT of work for his wife's school), and notify them of this fradulent activity.

Needless to say, CUSA will be in it up to their necks. I'm a REAL pain-in-the-ass when I wanna be, and it's about time CUSA, as the Joker would say, that, "...needs an enema!"
