If they hand me a $40 rebate (which, we know, they will), I will quietly inform them that this is not the advertised special, and what will they do about it?

I don't follow you on this. Am I missing something?

This is false advertising. Plain and simple.

I'm going to CUSA today to see what will happen. I will quietly carry in the supporting documents, and ask for them to print the rebate for me. If they hand me a $40 rebate (which, we know, they will), I will quietly inform them that this is not the advertised special, and what will they do about it? If nothing, I will cancel the sale, quietly drive home, and call the Kentucky Attorney General's office. It just-so-happens I know one of their lawyers (I do a LOT of work for his wife's school), and notify them of this fradulent activity.

Needless to say, CUSA will be in it up to their necks. I'm a REAL pain-in-the-ass when I wanna be, and it's about time CUSA, as the Joker would say, that, "...needs an enema!"

LOL! All that will end up happening is you will look like an @ss as you have no legal basis for getting the $79.99 price since the $40 MIR is now available. The fine print in the CompUSA ad states a mail-in rebate offer may be involved....

* Includes one or more mail-in rebate(s) or Instant Savings (Price Breaks).

There is no mis-representation on CompUSA's part here. If you don't want to deal with the CompUSA rebate simply PM at CC or other retailer.

If you go to this page, it shows the rebate being $50. The manager I talked to yesterday said it would be for $50 and would only give a $10 IR. Now, if you look at the link from that page, you can see the rebate is only $40. WTF

Went when they opened on Moday 10-7. Showed the ad to the manager, said he didnt think they offered a rebate on that item. I then showed the receipts from optoman's post. Hes like no problem we'll give it to ya for $73.99. total with tax $79.43. (orginal price was $139.99)I asked how long they will keep this price match he replied until the end of the week I guess. I really didnt think he gave a rats ass or even had an idea of what kinda deal I was getting. We then talked about how much the St. louis Rams have sucked....Total time was maybe 5min. Im sending my roomate in for another. I cant wait to bench these two drives in a raid 0.

OK guys, help me here. Would showing either CC or CU a copy of sales receipt help? I am in AZ, and the receipts posted here are out-of-state. Can they argue that since the receipt is not a local sales, they can't PM it?

I just spoke with CusA corporate office about the rebate. I have the link in my earlier post showing the rebate is for 50.00 but when I click on the link it brings up a 40.00 rebate. She said they were aware of the problem and have contacted the web advertising service to correct the PDF to the $50.00 rebate! So keep checking on the rebate site, she verified for me that 50.00 is the correct rebate .

Your guys are very creative. PM CC using CU ad. Then use CC receipt to PM @ CU. This is not a deal.

Then I'm misinformed of the IR....my understanding was that it was a $10 IR....which would bring the price to $129, add in a $40 instead of $50 MIR (which, yes, I've read that this has been corrected, but in light of the previous knowledge), total is $89 (I'm skipping the pennies here). Based solely on that information, and the proprosed scenario, it would in fact be false advertising. The stated IR is $10, the stated MIR is $50. And, as the ad states in bold, red letters, "$60 Savings."

If you're looking for a flamewar, head to PM or E-mail....this is not the place for it.

Off to CC to see if they'll PM.

If that's true, then it's even a better deal.....since the MIR only shows $40 right now....they will have to give you $20 IR at check out.....which means, you can then use the $50 MIR(if Compusa did fix the MIR) to get $50 back......save another $10.......

I just wished that Circuit City offered a rebate on this drive. I found one that has 4 of em but no rebates. I think 40 bucks is much nicer than 80.

You need to price match it with the CUSA ad but if they call CUSA, then might check to see if there is a rebate at CUSA. On sunday, they didn't check CUSA to see if there was a rebate and some people got it for the 110% price match.

YMMV

It's amazing what excuses Circuit City will give you if they don't want to do a PM. I just went to a 2nd Circuit City and the salesguy told me since CC currently does not have a rebate offer on the drive, they can't do a PM. This is different from the 1st one who flat out said they won't PM deals with rebate. At least they could have sticked to one universal excuse and be done with it.

The Regular Price is $140 - $40 Rebate - $20 Save an additional $20 when purchased in a store. = $80.
So the AD is correct, you would be saving $60.
If the Rebate turns out to be $50, then the final price will be $70.

Maybe they change the IR from $10 to $20 because the MIR is $40.
Maybe they'll change the IR back to $10 when they fix the MIR up to $50.
Maybe they just want to spook ATers.

I went to the CompUSA in Fountain Valley, no go. The manager is a jackass too, but thats another story..

I went to Circuit City, and they pricematched it and I got it for $80 or so after tax out the door.

I just went and purchased a second drive. Same older guy. He gave it to me a the same price. $73.99. This time didnt even ask to see the ad or receipts. Any CC giving you a hard time I would suggest printing from optoman's first post of this forum. I first showed the ad and he somewhat questioned it along with the ad I showed the receipts from optoman's purchase showing that another CC had rang it in for $73.99. This worked for me with no problem. I hope this will help some of you. Thanks for the great post Optoman.

Holy sh!t, they just changed the rebate to $40 on both of the pages. They really do suck! Anyone still have a printout of the old $50 page? Not the actual pdf file but just the page linking it to the pdf file.

These WD 80 Gig SE HD's are OOS at the local Compusa. The local CC was happy to do the PM with the 10% pop with the ad I brought in. I'm happy thanks to Optoman....kind of. I got home and found out the box contained a 1.6 Gig drive. Apparently CC had taken what they thought was a normal return, got screwed on the deal and obliviously put it back on the shelf to share the joy with the rest of us. Living 30 miles out of town I guess I got to experience this as well, though they should have more later in the week. Does anyone know whether a fellow can get a couple of these drive at the PM rate or does CC put a stop to the silliness after awhile?

Thanks to everyone for the great forum!

ok this is in the so. california area...

i went to the compusa (industry) and it was $129 - $10 IR = $119 - $40 MIR = $79

i printed out the ad and went to circuit city (covina) and pm'ed it for $79. they were kinda weird about it, but i kept saying my friend at the monrovia got the one at compusa in monrovia for 79 because the 60 dollar savings that it says on the ad was a instant rebate. so they finally gave it to me. i'm happy, i don't have to wait for a rebate from compusa now =)

Well guys.. I went to CC this morning with my compusa ad in hand with the scanned receipt from the first post.

The manager didn't want to give it to me at first because it was an internet ad, but I told them this was an in-store price only. He proceeded to the back and then came back saying he would pricematch to $79.99 but not 110%. I said fine.. and then he walked away. Then the clerk came over to do the price match and asked me if the mgr said it was ok. I said yeah.. and added that he said he would pricematch it 110%. (just thought I'd try hehe..) Since she wasn't listening to her mgr like a minute before she said OK!

The kicker here is since she obviously wasn't good at math and/or reading, she gave me the drives for $57.99 each! So I ended up with two 80 gig SE WD HD's for a total of $125.55!

This is the CC in Houston on Highway 6.

This forum rulez.
