32 bit & 64 bit disks included (shown in pic @newegg).

Used to be able to activate two installs, a 32 bit OS and 64 bit OS, from the same Vista key. Don't know if that trick still works.

The direct download from MS = $40 + tax ( No Disks )

The rebate is from NEWEGG , not some flakey fulfillment
service center for a B-class Co.

Time limit + only 1 per address

You can test it on all of your systems < don't connect to the
internet &/or activate > and format before moving to the
next system . d/l drivers to a 2nd. system , then jump-drive transfer .

~ Don't like it ? Resell it !

Most prefer a clean install, instead of installing win7 then win8. When Apple released OS X Mountain Lion, its $20.00 for a full version. Windows 7 has 6 editions now Windows 8 has 4. Too confusing.

Anyone with triple-display setup, can you comment on your experience with Windows 8?

I have 3 monitors, not sure if it's worth going to Windows 8? Is Windows 8 only worth it if you have a touch-screen display or Surface tablet already?

This is a good deal if you need to upgrade from something older than Windows 7, or need to go from 32-bit to 64-bit. There's not much reason to upgrade if you already have Win7-64, but if you don't, then this is a great deal. I was able to get a $15 upgrade for my laptop bought in July, and Windows 8 was able to fix some problems i was having with sleep and hibernate.

I would suggest installing a start menu replacement, such as "Classic Start Menu" and run with that for a week or 2, using it like windows 7, skipping the start screen. Eventually, all the programs you use most frequently will appear on the Metro start screen, making it quite usable.

... be sure to make current system images after installation

Can you elaborate? Is this just being safe, or is the reasoning that there's a chance you'll lose the Windows Media Center if you have to, say, reformat and re-install Windows 8 *after* Jan. 31? Would the system images prevent you from losing media center, forever?

OK fine, I pulled the trigger and went ahead and ordered my copy of Windows 8.

Does anyone know if the key that comes with the DVD hard-copy will be fine to install using the downloadable version from digitalriver?

I would like to create a USB installation with the convenient tool microsoft provides for use with the downloadable versions. I enjoyed using that for installing Win 7. But using the DVD to install just seems so old-school and slow compared to using USB, so I want to do it for that.

I also have a feeling I'll need to reinstall Win 8 in the very near future, so multiple reinstallations are likely. Figure it's best to just get the USB set up initially and have it ready for the future too, rather than having to use the DVD.

So, anybody try that, installing the downloadable version using their boxed set key code? Or, is there a different utility that would copy the information right of the DVD from this boxed set so that the boxed set key code would work?

How does this work, you have can download the media pack everytime you reinstall Windows 8 or do I keep the media pack download locally?

From what I gather is the media pack is already loaded on the disk.

This is what they sent me for instructions with my product key.

"Follow these steps to add Windows 8 Media Center Pack to your PC running Windows 8 Pro:

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you’re using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search).

Enter add features in the search box, and then tap or click Settings.

Tap or click Add features to Windows 8.

Then tap or click I already have a product key.

Enter the product key, and then click Next.

Read the license terms, select the check box to accept the license terms, and then click Add features.

Your PC will restart automatically and Windows Media Center will be available for use. "

the win 7 usb tool worked for a win 8 iso as well

So then I could take my Win 8 DVD, rip an ISO of it, then use the USB tool to create a USB installation that will work using my Win 8 DVD boxed version key code?

What if I just download the Win 8 iso from digitalriver, then try to use my Win 8 boxed DVD install key? Has anyone tried that? I guess it would take much longer, so I'll rip the DVD to save time compared to downloading, but I am curious from an academic standpoint.

should work, as far as I know the key is not tied to the install media at all. i used a $39 upgrade key with the the win8 x64 iso i got from my msdn subscription and it worked fine.

Awesome deal. I got in on the Microcenter deal when it first came out for like $38, but this is way better.

You have to call them then. Might have to take the Egg up on this, put it away till I feel the need for some frustration.
