I signed up when this deal first started (you can see my comment and skepticism on page 2 or 3 of this thread). Since then, I've transferred my domain (vngeneration.com) over and started to use some of the built-in page generation components to generate a temp site until I have time to redesign mine. The site is still up and is accessible
through this link. Since then I've been using it to store my digital pictures. The service has such cool features as subdomain creation (up to 50) and directory password protection (here's an example:
photos.vngeneration.com).
I got my gf as well as 4 other friends to sign up and get their own 500MB of free hosting space.
A trace on this server leads me to a site in Germany, their main data center (they say they have another datacenter in the US). Despite this fact, access to the site is fast and reliable. I am having my friends in Asia actively accessing and uploading to this site. They never complained about any sluggishness or downtime. Pretty good for a free service. I will likely change my registrar to 1&1.com and pay for this service (if the price is right) when the 3-year term is up.
Jump on this if you are even remotely interested in getting your own webspace or digital photo storage space as the deal is gone after January 15th (I think). As far as I know, you've got nothing to lose.
Also I've seen their 2-page ad in multiple magazines including PC World and Wired. This fact should lend some credibility to the company.
BTW: Movableype.org is cool. Gonna see if I can integrate that into my site. Thanks for posting info. about this site. Also, can someone point me to a good php or asp gallery system? I'm sick of generating my own html pages for photos.
