What are you talking about edro13? I saved the TOC as a text document (as is my custom), and it mentions nothing about the RIAA, the word Recording, and it only mentions America twice. (American Express, and American Arbitration Association).

Real Funny.

Granted, I am new to website building, but is it me or is this webhosting site damn difficult to manage?

You mean the control panel?

Normal web sites are easy to update, create the web site on your computer using DreamWeaver, Notepad, whatever then FTP your web site.

in t&c:
-------------------
3.2. Before using a website under a domain name, 1&1 may contain advertisements on the website for 1&1 Services or for the products and services offered by business partners of 1&1 or by other third parties. (sounds like they can advertise on your site if they want)
-------------------
4.1.8. you agree not to operate any commercial website with erotic content. (non-commercial eye candy is ok then, right? )
-------------------
10.2. You warrant that the contact information you have provided to 1&1 is and will remain accurate. You agree that you will inform 1&1 within 15 days of the change of any of the following information:

10.2.1. your name and/or mailing address;

10.2.2. the name, mailing address, email address, telephone or telefax number of the technical contact for your Domain Name(s), if applicable;

10.2.3. the name, mailing address, email address, telephone or telefax number of the administrative contact for your Domain Name(s), if applicable;

(Don't think they'll like the false info some of you guys are sending them)

Is there a way to sign up for domains without having your information available to the public via registrar domain lookup? Thanks!

Horsep0wer, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to. Just remember that the 5 GB bandwidth includes what you upload to the server as well as what people dl.

cryptz0r: GoDaddy.com sells a service like that. They register the domain under their name (I think) instead, but you still get full control of it (I hope ). It's like $10/year additional on top of the yearly domain registration.

ok, I've had a domain for a couple years. Used zoneedit.com for DNS servers and to setup email forwarding and such. I went to my registrar page (namecheap.com) and changed the dns servers to the ones provided by 1and1..... Will I be able to setup email forwarding so that *@mydomain.com forwards to another email address? and is there now no way for me to point the www.mydomain.com to one IP address and point mydomain.com to another or rdp.mydomain.com, to adifferent IP? Should I have left my DNS setup with zoneedit.com and simply forwarded the web page? Any info is appreciated. -Tal

I figured it was worth it to have my domain name only show up under GoDaddy, hopefully it will cut down a little on spam or information harvesting.

My site is active, and everything seems to be working fine. Now I just have to think of a new domain name...

Great deal if it lasts for the 3 years. 500MB of free storage is sweet, plus all the other goodies.

I loved 1&1, then someone linked directly to 2 of my files without my permission and sent my bandwidth usage through the roof then they bump my monthly premium up from £5 to £270......and they won't help me out....so I am cancelling and fighting them on the payment.

Oh man, but can't you set your cost limits low in the control panel to protect you from this sort of thing?

I signed up and am all set up. I guess it probably takes awhile before you can access your site though because I can't access it yet.

alright.. i THINK i've got stuff set up.. my question now is, is there a way to SSH into my 1and1 account using the domain name i chose? it'll be hard to remember the s123124u91024.onlinehome.us or whatever, not to mention my login name. does that make sense?

thanks,
kevin
