I registered a domain at rackshack/ev1servers and i get the message "Domain temporary not available" when trying to point in the control panel. My account is labeled as "ready". How long must I wait for rackshack to activate my domain? or is it 1and1?

this is rackshack's problem. not sure how long rackshack takes to activate a domain, but might take a couple days.

have anyone read the "Term of Agreement" when signing up? It said somthing about the set up fees but they did not put how much. Anyone have any idea how much the "setup" fee if there is any?

I've setup two accounts for different people, haven't had any fees and everything has gone pretty smoothly. I do have the problem of "domain temporarily unavailable" on one that was just registered through somebody else, it's been over a week now. Any ideas on what I should do? I'm new to this

Just in case anyone had the same thought - I put a free .tk address into my 1and1 control panel, to see if I could get it to use that. And it did let me setup an email address, and use the SMTP servers to SEND mail, which is the most I expected. Thought it was a pretty good setup, .tk forwards web and email TO me, and I could use the domain name to SEND mail too.

But obviously the .tk addresses don't let you really control them, and after a week or so I got an email from 1and1 saying they noticed the DNS changes weren't made, and if they didn't come through in another week they were going to unwind the changes. See below

You have to give them credit for being on top of things.

Dear Herb Meister,

A DNS transfer of your herbmeister.tk domain to your 1&1 web space had been
initiated.

The necessary adjustment of the name servers has not yet taken place, and
thus your website hosted on our server cannot be reached under the above
domain name yet.

Also the e-mail accounts included in your package cannot be enabled yet.

If you still like to link herbmeister.tk to your website hosted on our
server, please enter the following name servers with your registrar by
November 07, 2003 at ... PM:

DNS1: ns27.1and1.com
DNS2: ns28.1and1.com

Warning: At that time, if no further action is taken, we will remove the
herbmeister.tk domain from our systems. Removing the domain from our system
means that your website hosted on our server can no longer be reached by
your domain herbmeister.tk.

Also, any changes made up to this point to your e-mail account and
subdomains will be deleted.

If you want to point your domain to your website on our server only after
November 07, 2003 at ... PM, you can newly specify this configuration on the Control
Panel and enter the name servers specified there with your registrar.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our support team
using the contact form in your Control Panel. You can access your Control
Panel using the following link:

https://admin.1and1.com Please click on the button 'Help & Contact' to
access the form.

You may also like to know that you can register your .com, .net, .org,
and .info domains directly with us for only $5.99 a year.
For more details please go to www.1and1.com.

Sincerely,

Your 1&1 Team

Finally My domain is available and I added it to 1and1

Now the problem is 1and1 says it could not retrieve my mail server data from my domain... How can I make one? Or does rackshack (my domain registrar) provide with a mail server also ?

The other option it gives is to use the 1and1 mail server. If rackshack doesnt provide for mailservers, is there any other way?

I dont care if it ever really works. I signed up, got the e-mail, downloaded Netobjects 7.0 to play with and I'm out. If it gets up and running I will use it to upload images so I dont use the bandwidth all the time from my normal host.

I believe I went with the option of using 1and1's mail server. Not sure how that works though, then again my domain's screwy...

Does you domain work correctly and point to your website? I have rackshack as well, and although my domain is pointed to 1and1 and the nameservers are set in rackshack, i can't get my site up.

Thanx.

I havent pointed my domain to 1and1 as yet since it asks me to set up my mail server also ..

1 . Still not sure whether to go with 1and1 mail server or is there some other provider I can go with ?

2. Does registering your domain with rackshack access you to the mail server as well ? I dont think. but just confirming

I went ahead for 1and1 's mail server.

On the Domain Overview page, under the status of mydomain (from rackshack) it states "No 1&1 nameservers yet"
The other domain from 1and1 is ready . I've already changed the nameservers with rackshack to point to 1and1

Is there anything else needed to be done here

Appreciate your help !

Funny thing is, I have a dot tk domain that worked instantly even while it says "No 1and1 name servers set". So far i'm on the same page as you
Type in your domain in the browser and lemme know if yours points correctly, assuming you setup a webpage already.

Domain is ready now

Im using dreamweaver for website creation: I was wondering if the default ftp account can be used to access my rackshack domain. And then I just upload the page created to the root directory, is it?
Also how will that page be made main page on mydomain.com ?

How do you redirect it with a .tk? What address do you forward it to? I haven't signed up for it, but I do have a .tk that I could probably use for it...

Just an update...........

My php-nuke site has been up and running on 1and1's servers and everything is working great. I got one of those "anonymous domains" from godaddy.com that keeps my personal info hidden when someone does a whois search. It was like $17, but since it's my first registered domain I felt more comfortable going that route. Godaddy offers regular domains for about $8/year that comes with free domain masking which is nice.

Their servers seem to be very fast and everyone thats been to my page so far has commented on how nice the server is. I'm using 1and1's pop service to give members of my website their own email addresses. It's nice because they can have an address like their_name@my_registered_domain.com instead of their_name@S1324234523.1and1.com. I think they give me 50 email addresses, but I don't expect to use more than 25 of them. Users can also access their email via webmail which is nice.

I'm pretty much a website newbie so it took me a while to configure php-nuke, but now that it's done I'm very happy with it. Like another poster said I got a lot of help at nukecops.com. Their forums are tremendous. I just keep learning more and more every day.

I used phpadmin to setup my sql database. I got a lot of answers from 1and1's faq's and I've even called their tech support phone number and they were very helpful both times. Hardly no wait at all. The only thing is when they asked me my name I amlost told them my real name which would've sucked considering I used a slightly ficticous name when i registered.

After I registered my domain through godaddy it took about 16 hours until I use it at 1and1. I did it was available around noon the next day.
