Explain this phenomenon

How can this be possible? Why are we not investing more money to investigate this?

I watched a good documentary about this. Apparently there are a lot of methane pockets underneath the sea in this region which is unusual. That and it was a magnetic field.

what did i hear? something like shifts in the ocean floor unleashing huge pockets of gas (methane), bubbles to the surface wrecks the surface tension, boats lose bouyancy and go down? seems solid explanation to me.
