Explorer keeps opening new windows

Ok i just installed xp 64bit and was playing with changing icons and stuff. Then all of a sudden when i double click on folders it tries to open finder. I fixed that by going through the file types menu and changing folders to open by default with "open" explorer.exe in this same menu there is an option to browse in same window but i cant check it. So now when i open a folder it just opens a new window.

Ive also checked the browse options in windows under tools folder options and no matter what i do there it doesnt change. Any help would be great.

So when you go.. open Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder options>general tab>3rd down "Browse Folders">check "open folders in the same window" - it still opens a separate window? really? what happens when you adjust "Web View" to "Enable Web content in folder"? not that that should "fix" the problem but just curious.

you're not holding the Shift-key down when clicking on folders for some reason are you?

I ended up just reformatting, but yes it was set up to open in the same window.
