I guess I'm lucky, because the associates that work at my local MC are very knowledgeable and would never have tried to pull that heatsink crap. Of course, I'm in there 3-4 times a week it seems and I'm always geeking it up with them and "dropping some knowledge" on them all the time.

GS : Not sure why you have to be such a smarta$$, I was merely trying to point out that the latest paper catalog did not agree with the email newsletter. And that the price was not on Pg. 3 but rather right on the front cover and that it now lists $259.99, which conflicted with even their latest email newsletter. And nowhere did I say/imply that they have more than one website. I guess "my bad" for confusing the original question, but when someone refered to the print catalog I assumed they meant the one that comes in the mail.

As for your implying that I am clueless about MC, I am probably as familiar with MC as anyone on this Forum, considering I have been shopping at MC since they were a one-store operation here in their "corporate hometown" and CP/M was king. But that most likely pre-dates your birth date. KABOOM indeed !

I picked one up on the third and the sales guy wasn't too pushy. I actually enjoyed ranting about the great deals I got elsewhere. Dropping the AnandTech Hot Deals buzzword a couple of times along with a couple other sites.

I started it up with the stock HSF and it idled at 41-46c. I was planning on testing it a bit before I got more exotic cooling on it but with those temps. I'm installing a much better HSF now.

I also got a G0 version (I think they're all that now)

I'm not personally near a Microcenter B&M, though I'd be glad to order online and have a friend pick it up for me.

Or order / pay over the phone to the local store or main sales line or whatever and have it picked up for me in-store.

Or can I phone order it (if not on the www site???) from a given B&M and just pay to have it shipped??

Are any of these things easily done?

Usually with the "in store pickup" type options, you have to show the credit card used to make the purchase or somesuch, so you'd be better to get a buddy that can front you the money (or send HIM the money in advance).

I have a question for those getting new heatsinks, what are you buying?

I'm using the Freezer Pro 7.. but that I had taken that from my E6420 when I upgraded.. I'm looking at that Xigmatek HDT-S1283 though as a possible replacement. I really don't want to get something like a Tuniq where I have to mount it on a backplate.

That Xigmatek HDT-S1283 is a beast! It must be that huge fan, but it's both cool & quiet, so I ordered one. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah they hold the order for 30 days so there is a shot at getting it for 199. Price cuts are coming April 15th I think? Ill hold out a tad longer.

Price cuts on the Q6600's are coming soon, but according to the info I've read the post-cut per-unit price for the Q6600 (in 1000-unit allotments) will be $226 or so, still higher than Micro Center's sale price.
