Extending a PCI-E power connector with... Another connector...

should I do this?

I have a PCI-E connector that is 3" too short to reach my card. And sense there is not one company in the world that makes a cable that extends. I decided to cut a cable off a blow PSU from work. Now I am gonna solder or splice this on. Now my qustion is... There is 3 grounds black and 3 yellows.

iirc they all differ with some being differant rails. How can I determine if it is or not? And if it is How can I do this without blowing my system or a $400 card?... lol

cant you just match the wires to their location on the connector, and make sure that you splice to the same ones on the new/extended connector? Unless there is heatshrink or something in the way, that'd be my suggestion. AFAIK they are all on the same 12v rail, you can always voltmeter it and also do a continuity test with it off and unplugged from one yellow to another to see if they are..

O, ok, Just checking. Cause I did not know why they made 6 wires and 3 of them are all the same or not. Makes me wonder why they did not just made 2 big wires instead. lol
