I ordered four of the External Hard Drive Enclosure and a USB 2.0 card from this company yesterday and I received it today. Shipping was cheap to considering i purchased 4 of them, shipping came out to $7.00.

This is an awesome deal! Thanks Anandtech.

I suggest you get an enclosure with FIREWIRE interface.... The IDE-firewire bridge must be the Oxford 911 and you can get sustained data transfer rates as high as 35 MB/sec. Despite the theoretical advantage of USB 2.0, for this kind of job (external drive) the only guy in town is still firewire. Try it yourself.

A firewire enclosure should be like $5-$10 more expensive than a USB 2.0. I personally suggest you get a COMBO enclosure for $15-$20 more (both interfaces). A PCI firewire card runs for about $15 shipped. If you are already spending bick bucks in those huge hard drives, $35 additional green bills are well worth the effort.

I agree with the Firewire! I have several firewire devices including an enclosure that I put a WD 120GB 8MB drive that I got off another "hot deal" for $42.00. I use it for digital video and it performs excent. I have yet to notice a difference when working with my internal or external drives.

Firewire may have started with mac**t*sh computers but the devices are great in PC's.

Good to hear...my own experience with scsi is limited. The people i know who're into this are mostly mac/scsi fans, so i was hoping for some insight as to pc video editing setups.

Belkin refurbs (search for thread, somewhere around here) has the firewire cards for 6.99 with cable included, 7.50 shipping, so add some more items to make it worthwhile. Could be a good add-on for those looking for an external enclosure.

I found yet another one for less than the enclosure mentioned in this thread. It seems as though this is more of a cold deal than anything else... Anyone know what these normally go for?

Anyone know of a standard price for a USB/firewire combo enclosure? Thanks
