So I got a Cavalry caxm37500 a couple days ago and have it connected through the eSATA connection. I've already copied about 70gb of data to it. It was working fine earlier today, however when I turned it off, came back and started it up again like 10 hours later, I seem to have lost some of my data. I copied two folders, one was about 22gb, and the other was 47gb. When I opened up the drive, only the 22gb folder was showing, and was having trouble being accessed. Funny thing is it still shows 69-70gb used in the properties of the drive. I turned it off and back on again just to make sure it might have just been Vista acting strange, and even restarted the computer, but still the same thing. So basically as of now, I've officially lost 47gb of data since I deleted it off my pc drive from which I copied from. However luckily, even though the drive still shows the 22gb folder, I've kept the original folder for now.
Weird thing I noticed...
On the back of this drive there is a switch to turn the fan off. When it is off, and I power up the drive, it doesn't seem to stay on for more than 10 seconds or so...maybe at most 20 seconds. The blue light will come on, then turn off. However, I switched the fan on again while off and booted it up, and it seems to work fine. I turned the fan off while the drive is on, and it's staying on.
bad drive or case? Faulty eSATA connection?
I was just about to send a rebate off for this drive, but should I get it replaced instead, or just salvage the WD 500gb 16mb cache sata2 drive within and just stick it in the pc?

I just ran Vista's disk tool under drive properties, the error-checking tool and it performed chkdsk, and seems to have found the "missing" folder. Everything seems to be ok now. Very weird stuff. Is this sort of thing supposed to happen? I noticed that even when I power down the drive, the drive folder still shows available under Computer. Maybe this is an aftereffect of it being connected via eSata and not usb? I'm a bit weary to use the drive until I test it out a little more.
