dont agree at all. if anything it would make the points mater a whole lot more.

Eliminate the stupid extra point and give touchdown's 7 points. teams then would have a chance to get 2 more points by getting one more down at the goal line.

then that totally eliminates any chance of only being down by 2 fieldgoals after a touchdown is scored. it would totally change the dynamics of the game.

as someone else stated, just watch more football because you obviously don't understand that many aspects of it.

just like there is a reason you don't go for the 2 point conversion if you are down 8-0 in the first quarter and score a touchdown, but you would go for it if you scored in the 4th quarter with like 2 minutes left.

additionally, the 7 points for a touchdown and then a 1pt conversion would totally screw up the dynamics of 6pts for a td then 2 pts for a safety. it would then give a team that scores a td (with no conversion) + a safety 9 points.

if you are down by 8 points near the end of a game and score a td, there are a lot more factors that come into the decision of what to do than you seem to realize.

Pretty sure the Jags missed extra point in the first week against my Vikes. It happens.

Since virtually no one ever goes for 2 points, except as a desperation measure late in the game, and since it (data above) only had a 40% success rate, perhaps football would be improved by making it a 3 point conversion instead of a 2 point?

It's a very stupid play, one that is extremely successful and does nothing to better the game.

Yes missing it can affect the game, which rarely happens, but the end doesn't justify the means. What do you expect from a game that took it's name from a completely different sport.

euro football was already called soccer by the Brits (those who invented the sport) before american football became football.

also, there wasn't any forward passing in the early days of American football. It was very similar to Rugby, and iirc, the general strategy was to score fieldgoals. so...lots of kicking. with your foot....

thank god they changed the rules, though--because now it is far, far superior to soccer and rugby.

IMO they should keep it the way it is.

I win. :awe:

I find football and soccer both pretty damn boring, actually any sport, if I'm not watching a team I actually give a damn about.

Last year when I played Madden with my roommates we had a rule that you always had to go for the two-point conversion. It makes the game much more interesting for sure.

That's the stupidest thing you've said yet. Then that makes a touchdown + 2 point conversion = 3 field goals. They would tie with 3 field goals. In the current system, they'd win with 3 field goals over TD + EP or TD + 2 points. You're fucking up the whole balance of the point system.

nothing. like i said when was the last time YOU saw a missed or blocked attempt? that website's data is like 5 years stale.
I specifically recall actually seeing two missed attempts last year. It absolutely can happen and can be disastrous in the wrong situation. There is nothing wrong with having it, and it should be kept as is.

You shut your whore mouth.

I like that Rugby actually involves tackling. Football has long gone in the wrong direction regarding this--instead of re-focusing on proper tackling and punishing unnecessary hits, we just give the football players more and more armor, to encourage stronger hits.

the football players = wusses argument has always made me laugh--because they wear pads and helmets? sure....you simply don't put out hits like that in Rugby, you don't run at nearly the speeds capable to generate that much damage against an individual player.

Early football was producing tons of players with rather serious head and back injuries, so the equipment was a necessary compromise. To me, though, the problem is that this became the focus--hit as hard as possible, meaning greater potential for allowing bigger offensive plays if you miss that hit. I'd like to see more emphasis on rugby-style tackling.

I saw one yesterday in the Falcons vs. Charger game. Lined up for the extra point and had a bad snap, the holder tried but no luck. Good thing they didnt need that one point in the end but it does happen. Also three years ago for the Falcons I believe J. Elam missed 2 that year along with what seemed like every other FG attempt.

I wouldn't mind a system where the extra point is awarded automatically unless the team decides to go for 2. Then again, it takes away some of the tension in which a team is down by 6 and drives for a touchdown, and the defending team gets one last ditch effort to block the extra point.

This would take away the fake extra point play as well. Why would you want to do that?
