Extra Reaction Emotes

Hello,

There are currently only 4 reaction emotes to posts:
- Like/Upvote
- Shock
- Laugh
- Love

This is sometimes lacking in the following cases:
- Anger/Upset
- Sad
- Misunderstanding/Unsure
- Afraid/Disbelief

And possibly others.

I'm not asking for a "dislike/thumbs down" because it's a forum and if you disagree, you should voice it in words, or ignore it and move on. But I have found myself many times responding with posts which simply didn't add to the conversation. Asking for precisions, being sad or disappointed about something or upset about something happens often, and many times the posts that are thrown in response are just reactions whose words are completely pointless. It's just thread clutter in the end, and I many times wanted to just respond with a reaction emote.

Could we add more emotes, which ones, and does anyone have ideas on other emotes to add?

With some of these it can be confusing what you're reacting to. If someone posts a link to a story, with their own comments added (as required in P&N), and I post an anger reaction, am I angry at the people in the story? Or am I angry at the poster?

Too many emojis spoil the soup.

If you just have to Get That Feeling Out There to be at peace, you could just copy and paste one. 😥 Of course this requires a reply post and...

... then don't. The expanded # of emojis feature you're asking about, doesn't add to the conversation either. Besides, asking for forum changes on this forum, is usually a waste of time and would (should!) be backlogged behind many other, more significant issues.

If it's confusing, then you just don't use it? Emotes don't prevent anyone from writing if they feel like it's worth a full text. It's just a shorthand.
If I had someone who posted a story that made me angry and he took a stance on that story, I'd write something if I was afraid they'd be confused.

Reaction emotes, not the in-text emotes. I don't use in-text emotes or very rarely. Reaction emotes are the ones below other posters' posts, it's a lot more practical than to clutter by responding: "yeah, I agree" or "haha you're funny".

It's a lot more practical to just not bother. Everyone has "some" kind of feeling about everything they read, even if it's just boredom. That doesn't need to be shared.

I completely disagree, there's a lot of cases were the current reactions just don't suffice.
And I find your argument a bit ridiculous frankly: you don't want to bother, so I shouldn't have the option to bother?

It's not as if extra reaction emotes bother those who never use them. It's not as if it will take 4 emotes and clutter it to death by making it 8 either.
I'd like to have them because it saves page space and allows better communication. If you don't want to use them, nobody's forcing you.

Bother other people who you expect to care about your feelings when you can't even be bothered to add something useful to the topic instead? Yes, you shouldn't have that option. Frankly I don't care that much one way or the other, but you did bring up the topic, so it is fair to present opposing points of view.

It's not a text message to a loved one where you can be lazy with an emoji then expect your loved one to reply back asking how you feel. Your importance to the topic is what you add to it, not how you feel.
