Well First and Foremost you forgot The Fragbook. Along with some others.. Lets start with what ou want to play with it. Does it need to be portable and have decent batt life and such.

Voodoo probably makes the most capable (performance) laptops, but they cost more than anything else out there. You may not really know what you are getting into here...those super gamer laptops get about 25min of battery life...

Step 1: Build a SFF with a 4600 A64, dual 7800GTO's, and a fiber-SCSI array.
Step 2: Weld to it an LCD monitor.
Step 3: Weld on a seperate enclosure.
Step 4: In the secondary enclosure, put a car battery and power inverter.
Step 5: Wire it all together.
Step 6: Glue on a keyboard.

Presto! The world's fastest gaming laptop!

Acer Ferrari isn't a desktop replacement. It's a fine laptop but it doesn't match the others mentioned for performance... though it's battery life and portability do mean it beats them for practicality.

If I wanted a "custom" and "crazy" laptop, I'd get an old iBook G3 and do a transreflective paint mod on the insides, layer it in a few places, and add some LEDs.
If I wanted a laptop that played games well, I'd go with a Dell XPS; however, the amount of time I spent RMAing my 9100 (identical to the old XPS) has been roughly equal to a third of the time I've owned it.
If I wanted a practical laptop that plays games well, I'd go for an Acer. An X700 with a top-of-the-line Turion is a nice combination, and the battery life's acceptable.
That said, I just got a HP NC4010. It's only got an integrated ATI IGP350 graphics unit, but it weighs three and a half pounds. If I want to game, I do that on a desktop.

Does anyone have any pictures/tutorials for this? It sounds interesting, but ive never seen it. Also, my cousin got his gaming laptop from
http://www.pctorque.com
its a sager. They are plenty powerful and probably quite a bit cheaper too. He hasn't had any problems with his, but thats about the only experience I've had with them.

Second the vote for Sager. They and the others are all born CLEVO in Taiwan, but with Sager you don't pay for the custom paint job (unless you want one) or silly case design. They make a rock solid, stupid fast DTR/gaming notebook, although if you do a ton of gaming you're more likely to encounter heat-related problems just after the factory warranty expires (GPU corruption and 3D artifacting being my current bête noir). Sager customer service gets a B+.
