They sure don't have much information on their site. I bet they send you a big fat book of exclusions after you join. I guess it's better than walking off the street and paying retail.

Sams clubs sells a a 7.00/mo discount dental plan administered by Protective Life Insurance . Sams sometimes mails a promo for this to members or your can get more info as the customer service desk (HA !) Also web seach for Fortis Benefits , and Compdent . These plans basically get you great discounts and for offer low co-pay bi-annual cleanings. But are a lot of bait and switch dentists work with these and you have to watch it

I think you can even get this kind of coverage cheaper. Before I had coverage from my current job, I used "Northeast Dental". It was about $85 flat rate per year, and you get the same discounts. In other words, if a procedure costs $300, you might get it for $175 or some such. Depends on the procedure, too. They usually throw in the first exam/xrays/ free, and first cleaning for $10, if I recall.

Northeast Dental Plan

Definitely an east coast entity, however.

I've seen these cheaper. Dont call it coverage. Just a discount plan. You have to pick their dentists if you can find one. I couldnt. It shows the savings you get and the percentage. My dentists is cheaper than with their savings.

Most of these are MLM multilevel marketing scams. they are more interested in selling plans and signing up associates that the dental plans.

When I was in college I signed up for one and was very pleased; the name escapes me now. I do remember the membership card had an American flag logo, so maybe that could be a hint. Saved me around $400 over four years in cleaning and sealents versus the University health program prices.

wow that's ghetto

of course the dental association is just a scam to get money every 6 months. i think if they made it 9 months every visit, u'd be just as fine. but then they'd get 50% less $$$

I've got two dental hygenist friends and both say that cleaning every 6 months is overkill. Once a year is fine for a person who brushes regularly. Don't forget to floss kiddies! I do it while reading the forums. Nothing like little food chunks flying onto the monitor.

Can just see some of these plan dentists reaching for their Black and Decker 3/8's Cordless Molar excavaters. Remember when you walk into the office ...metal arm and leg retainers are a dead give-away!!

I had a Protective Life policy until recently. The first time I went to the dentist to get a filling replaced I had to pay a $50 deductable. With no insurance it would have cost me $60. So for paying $10/week for a year ($520) I got $10 back. Nice! What's more, the policy doesn't cover crowns and a lot of the more expensive work. I've given up on dental policies, they're a rip-off!

yeah a single filling is only about 60 bucks. I soon need to have 4 wisdom teeth pulled AND a crown put on, along with a filling, so I'm on course for a HUGE dental bill. Luckily, my new employer gives dental coverage for like 8 dollars a month.

Get cheap dental work at your local dental school.

NOT, please don't do this. I had a nightmare from Hell doing this and still have pain. They made me sick w/infection and filled a tooth that needed root canal. I went back to get my money refunded and was hassled. It wasn't even THAT much cheaper ($90 for a full Xray set and $55 for the filling). They credited my CC most of the money after I bytched and moaned, but they really messed up my teeth. Some things in life you just don't skimp on. This is one of them. I found a good dentist willing to do the root canal for cheaper b/c I am not working now. He is gonna charge me around $650, and even tried to avoid doing it first by redoing what the students did. The dental school fscked my tooth and gums. The student was a ham-handed rookie. Their equipment was bad too. Don't go to a dental school please !!!

What school did you go to? I'm a dental student myself (#1 school) and have had some dental work done by fellow students - quality was excellent.

You get what you pay for..... HMO plans are the worst...most of them.

Best thing is to get a check up every 6 months and avoid major work by getting small procedures done... sometimes sh*t happens and you may need a lot of work, so get a check up please.
