Connected to a 54Mbps wireless G connection. Copying some files from another machine on the network.

Speed I'm getting? ~840KBps.

Something is seriously wrong here..

Any suggestions?

It's a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n, with a driver provided by Broadcom, v. 4.102.15.61.
This is on a brand new Inspiron 1520..

Do a search in the Networking forum. Disabling autotuning fixed it for me, but if you actually look in the proper forum, there are several things you can try.

This topic looks more like a Networking topic, so it is being moved to Networking from Windows/PC Software (which is for apps & software topics, not OS topics).

840KBps is about 8Mb/sec. (b=bit B=Byte 1Byte=8bits).

8Mb/sec. is not beyond pathetic for Wireless.

802.11g at it best provides about 20Mb/sec.

You did not indicate any thing about the hardware and the environmental condition. A noisy signal environment and an obstructed positioning can easily yield such a Bandwidth (and lower).

Take a look at this thread, http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2077718&enterthread=y

20Mb/s is even a stretch (imho) unless you happen to live in a faraday cage.

OP. wireless is slow, you live and deal with it. When I need to do large copies, I either plug in, or just start it when I'll have a few minutes to wait.
