Here is Anandtech's report from Hotchips.
It reminds me a lot of Bobcat/Jaguar.
Yeah,I think you're right. That could be it.Didn't Samsung pick up a bunch of ex-AMD engineers?
Brad Burgess was the lead architect for both M1 and Bobcat.Didn't Samsung pick up a bunch of ex-AMD engineers?
Are you planning to build a workstation using your s7?BTW, Andrei, where is the deep dive review of S7? I would love to see SPEC results
You mean, Samsung might have used Bobcats Perceptron Branch predictor?Yeah,I think you're right. That could be it.
But if you ask me,I think Bobcat/Jaguar were one of the best CPU designs AMD ever made.So if I was a CPU designer,I would try to take best from it.
Unfortunately I have to wind down my activity at AT due to personal reasons. :/BTW, Andrei, where is the deep dive review of S7? I would love to see SPEC results
That one is a ringer, isn't it?You mean, Samsung might have used Bobcats Perceptron Branch predictor?
Yeah, I intend on creating a cluster of S7 through WiFiAre you planning to build a workstation using your s7?

Generally M1 is same IPC as A72 in SPEC and Kryo is slightly lower than an A57.
I can't really publish SPEC here but GeekBench 4 (very happy with this versus the GB3 mess) scores scale almost exactly as SPEC, so here's a few of my figures:
https://beta.browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/229 Kryo 1453/3472
https://beta.browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/227 M1 1844/5550
https://beta.browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/233 A72 1738/5071
https://beta.browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/4328 A9 2511/4184 (not mine)
Efficiency wise it's A72 ~15-30% > M1 ~10% > A57 ~10% > Kryo for these respective SoCs.
Samsung has a fast micro-arch, but they need to focus on improving efficiency to be able to catch up to A73 next gen.
Take care with that. You might approach BD cache latency levels.Yeah, I intend on creating a cluster of S7 through WiFi
Yah, for real. I thought he had disappeared. Thankfully he is still here and I hope to read his writing sooner or later. Sooner, rather than later.BTW, Andrei, where is the deep dive review of S7? I would love to see SPEC results
He has left the work in Anandtech for personal reasons.Yah, for real. I thought he had disappeared. Thankfully he is still here and I hope to read his writing sooner or later. Sooner, rather than later.
