Eyefinity Adaptor?

Looking to get an Eyefinity setup running and figure that there is some sort of adaptor I will need to get all 3 monitors running.

What is this adaptor called and where can I get it? Or do I just need an Eyefinity card and it will come with what I need?

You don't need any adapters if you monitors have display port. If not, you need an adapter there are two possible options for you:

1) DP to Single-Link DVI Active adapter, supports a max resolution of 1920 X 1200. Cost $30

2) DP to Dual-link DVI Active adapter, for resolutions higher than 1920 X 1200. Cost $100

That adapter is single link dvi and not active. You need an active dual link dvi adapter. Even then the success rate with achieving 1080p or > is not very good.

Actually the new ATI branded ones like the one he linked to are active adapters, and work fine at 1920x1080.

That guy that says it isn't an active adapter is confusing it with older DP converters before ATI came in and offered low cost active DP adapters. The new ATI provided ones like the one in that link are active, and it says so in the description on Newegg. You will only need 1 of that kind.

The adapter is active. It just doesn't convert to dual-link DVI (only single-link), which he doesn't need with the monitors he's getting.

I recently purchased a 5770 card with two DVI, one HDMI and one DP port. I have several questions in setting up eyefinity (in the near future, hopefully) hope you guys can help:

1. Is max number of displays I can use 4? if so, do you suggest 2x2 configuration? or 3x1 configuration?

2. can 4 (or 3) ports (HDMI, DP, 2xDVI) hybrid? i.e., can I plug one display to HDMI, one to DP and 2 to DVI?

3. Is there a resolution range (min and max) I should be aware of for each of the 3 or 4 displays?

Any other suggestions?

1. No. You can use up to 3 displays.
- 2 out of 3 from 2xDVI and 1xHDMI (so either DVI+DVI or DVI+HDMI)
- DP is always available

2. Yes, as long as you follow the limitation from point 1.

3. All of those connections can go up to 2560x1600, so there's no limitation. As long as you use a HDMI 1.3 compliant cable and your monitor supports HDMI 1.3 (or higher). HDMI 1.0 was limited to 1920x1080.

When I check AMD's support site, looks like all the program they deemed "validated" or "ready" are combination of displays with resolution higher than somethingx1080.

While, they some panels they listed in their "checked list", are just 1600x900, etc

My question is, if a game supports eyefinity resolution (lets say, 3240x1920), but not the resolution of the combo displays (lets say three 1440x900, make it 2700x1440), what will happen?
