I've been running a new setup with two 6950 2GB and three Dell U2311h monitors for a few months now and am getting really pissed off by the poor experience.
When it works, it's awesome. The problem is that it tends not to work more often than not. I'm hoping somebody here can help out with a few, if not all, of those issues.
1) The DisplayPort monitor is horribly buggy. I don't know if it's a problem with my adapter (Sapphire active single-link DVI), my wires or something, but the monitor often gets visual artifacting (which can be fixed by jiggling the cables around) or, more annoyingly, black screens that only a reboot will fix (DisplayPort Link Failures). Sometimes the screen stops being detected at all and I need to reboot many times to get it back online, often with it stuck in 640x480.
I know the screen has DP, but oddly enough mDP-DP cables are harder to find than mDP-DVI adapters, at least from what I could glean here in Canada. Would going full DP help?
2) Presets get mixed up all the time. I have many presets since my screens pivot and I love using them this way, but activating presets is an exercise in frustration, requiring two, three or even more hits before it fully toggles online. Sometimes I even lose all output!
3) Speaking of pivoting, I've recently gotten stuck in landscape mode. Switching to portrait was disabled in CCC and even activating presets that were in portrait mode did not do anything. I had to uninstall the AMD drivers, all the programs and uninstall the GPUs in Device Manager. I hope this doesn't crop up too often because it's one hell of a pain.

I don't know whether people have had such issues in the past, but I'm getting really frustrated. Such a costly setup shouldn't behave like that, this is the second generation of Eyefinity-capable devices. I've been considering going back Nvidia but I've no idea if it works better, apart from the fact you don't need DisplayPort, which I now loathe (DP doesn't work on my laptop either).
Any tips? Is Nvidia's Surround better? Is it an adapter problem?
