Up until I had Lasik a few months ago, I've worn glasses for 30 years...

Anti-glare coating is worth every penny. Is it overpriced? Probably. But if they charged twice as much, I'd still get it.

fuck. guess i learned my lesson. thinking of picking up a cheap pair with AR coating online. i only paid $80 for these after my insurance so i suppose it's not too big of a loss.

That's what I'd do. It's amazing that you can pick up 3 or 4 pairs of prescription glasses - with AR coating - just for the cost that people pay for the AR alone. I'm also gaining a bit of understanding from a couple of comments: "My glasses last 3 years!" I almost forgot that "but I almost always wear contact lenses" is a reason for many people. I've recommended the online sites to quite a few people, and have yet to have one of them upset with me. Usually, they go out of their way to thank me.

As far as AR coating - meh, depends on the type of environment I'm in as to whether it's worth it or not. If there's a lot of light coming from behind me, I'd prefer them, but generally, it hasn't made enough of a difference to me for me to really care when I'm ordering a few pairs of glasses.

If you've got bad eyesight, AR coatings are a must. The cost tends to be relatively small compared to the cost of the high index lenses. My wife refused to get them because she didn't want the greenish reflection that's visible to others.

She changed her mind on the follow-up pair because even after a few years to get used to it, reflections were still distracting her.

If you are getting new frames try to get something that does not stick out from the side of your face as much. That is the biggest issue I think, because it catches stuff from behind you. I've tried several anti glare coatings and none seem to completely remove reflections. I almost bit the bullet and picked another frame but at $400+ bucks for a frame these days I did not want to spend that kind of money. I just have to avoid sitting anywhere where there is a source of light behind me, or it will drive me insane.

Next time I'm due for frames I will make sure to get something that wraps around the head better like sun glasses.

I really want to get laser treatment though... I have to stop being chicken and just go. I think it only takes like 15 minutes per eye, that's less than a dentist checkup.

$400 for frames? Oakley and other expensive prescription frames are $200 or less in the US. The lenses are what's expensive. My Zeiss lenses are over $600.

I have the teflon coating on both my sunglasses (Costas) and glasses (Flexons) and I will tell you right now that I will not be getting them again. I can NEVER get the Costas clear now. They are always hazy and I hate it.

The Flexons are better, I got them for night driving since I have problems with glare. I cannot really tell a difference, still getting glare pretty bad.

Now it might be better, but its still bad.
