Sometimes when I play certain games like UT2004, just out of nowhere my eyes start burning and watering real bad for a little bit then it goes away. I have a 17" CRT, I wonder if that's the problem. Just kind of weird thing, anybody else have similar experiences?

That happens to me when I play too much on my PC. Just don't play so often. Give your eyes a break. Too much of anything is a bad thing I suppose.

I don't think its a refresh rate problem. People usually get headaches when that happens.

Or

Your monitor is leaking radiation into your eye sockets. j/k

games tend to stop you from blinking(espically fast paced games. 2 hours on and 10 minutes off(focus on something else, take a walk) will help considerably. also in the lnog run, your eye health will be a lot better and you wont be blind at 60.

I get the same thing occasionally, though usually not while playing games. Optometrist said it's simply your eye's way of rehydrating itself if it dries out. Very annoying.

anything that takes an amount of concentration (reading, watching TV, PC use)reduces your average blinking by half.

The best recommendation is just try to remind yourself to blink...its free

Blink, drink some water, open a window, get up and move around and focus on something a few feet away that isn't being shot at you out of a CRT.

Turn on some more indirect lighting, make sure the lights you have on aren't being reflected in the screen, ensure your refresh rate stays at 85-100Hz when you're gaming (default is 60Hz).

keep an "artificial tears"/eye lubricant handy...dont use the "one that gets rid of the redness"...read the labels because both products have similar containers...

It's the first sign of computagamalungus. It means you're addicted to playing video games and havent had any excecise in a while. What you need to go outside and run or do something active for a little bit. j/k

Everyonce in awhile force your self to get up and away from the computer. Go in the other room and get a drink and hang out for 5-10 minutes.

Whats the refresh rate of the CRT? The higher, the better.

Or get an LCD. I've got on 72 hour EQ2 binges and my eyes don't hurt at all.

how close is your face to the screen? try upping your refresh rate or gamma, sometimes when i up the gamma its easier on my eyes especially in those really dark games

yeah, it could just as well be the moniter...turn the brightness contrast down?

I mean, yeah, take a walk, don't be a computer-potatoe, but you can help things along a little by resetting stuff perhaps. Maybe better lighing at your computer? I always use a halogen....can't stand having a flourescant next to my comp.

My mum often tells me that 'that old TV is emitting rays and damaging you eyes'.... uhhh.... yes mum. I lose thousands of retinal cells every time I look at it just after waking up.

Take 15 minute breaks in between each hour you stare. Seriously, it works. It sounds all "parental" and what not but man, I've been doing it for over a year and by golly it stops the burning. Long hours staring at a screen of any sort will strain the eyes. Come on, for several years they've been putting those warnings on your video games, consoles, etc. I myself finally gave in and well, honestly it worked for me.
