It looks like nice weather. Strange the F16 pilot couldn't see the Cessna--even if he a radar, etc malfunction. How long do you think before we will know anything about the cause: a year for a NTSB report?
Eh, it's not that easy, as obvious as it may sound. You have to keep your head moving
constantly even in a little Cessna - objects can come up QUICK even in a slow, small plane like that, and if you're flying a jet airplane at two or three or four or five times that speed, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. It's not like being on the road where there's only forward, back, left, right, and some lanes - you have a 360-degree view complete with visibility haze, limited eyesight, distractions, etc.
What most people don't realize is that nearly all accidents are human-related, not airplane-related - the planes themselves are tested like crazy & have to pass a huge amount of regulations in order to get into the sky. Either a mechanic forgot to do something or they skipped maintenance, or someone wasn't paying attention or was showing off, or the pilot wasn't as up-to-speed on the plane as they should have been. And even though there's a big, open sky, collisions still happen, especially around airports where it's busy & people are distracted.
