F-16 should have onboard radar but I guess shit happens.

Skin paint radar is not look down.
If the transponder was not on for the Cessna the skin paint and/or visual would be the only way of knowing in advance.

If the Cessna popped up in front of the Falcon; at 400mph, there was little chance of avoidance.

Has anyone seen what the altitude estimates were for the collision?

Cessnas don't have pressurized cabins so it must've been low.

Everything around it looks to be in pretty good shape too. Almost like someone carried it over and gently leaned it up against the camper

It does seem to be more common these days - at least for where I work and thats a good thing - at least where I work

Possible that it bounced over to where it was, the trailer obviously did not bear any impact as it would have been heavily damaged.

It looks like nice weather. Strange the F16 pilot couldn't see the Cessna--even if he a radar, etc malfunction. How long do you think before we will know anything about the cause: a year for a NTSB report?

I have flown Cessnas at 12.

I do not know what the min alt is for that area for military aircraft.
And as another stated, there may be military no-fly zones and/or airways that the Cessna strayed into.

Once the block box from the Falcon is looked at, there will be more accurate info.
We will know exactly what the Falcon saw and what it was doing just prior to the accident

Eh, it's not that easy, as obvious as it may sound. You have to keep your head moving constantly even in a little Cessna - objects can come up QUICK even in a slow, small plane like that, and if you're flying a jet airplane at two or three or four or five times that speed, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. It's not like being on the road where there's only forward, back, left, right, and some lanes - you have a 360-degree view complete with visibility haze, limited eyesight, distractions, etc.

What most people don't realize is that nearly all accidents are human-related, not airplane-related - the planes themselves are tested like crazy & have to pass a huge amount of regulations in order to get into the sky. Either a mechanic forgot to do something or they skipped maintenance, or someone wasn't paying attention or was showing off, or the pilot wasn't as up-to-speed on the plane as they should have been. And even though there's a big, open sky, collisions still happen, especially around airports where it's busy & people are distracted.

Sad news, I'm not surprised at all the Cessna passengers didn't make it. I've flown in half a dozen different models and they're all lightweight, unpressurized delicate flowers compared to designs made for combat stresses and damage. Poor guys RIP
