Funny because the older models people idolize so much were also ridiculed when they first came out. (Porsche is the best when it comes to fooling people, they have been switching up the same design for over a decade now, the "new" 911 will go back to the raised headlight look, which fools 996/997 owners into thinking the 993 inspired new model is actually "new."

Aesthetics are not like technology, so your Genesis-vs-360 comparison is entirely irrelevant.
It seems to me that as long as photographs are available, each person can look at a new car and have a reasonable opinion about whether it looks better or worse than its predecessor. As a result, I can say I preferred the F360 over the F430, and also over its predecessors, the F355 and F348. I prefer the 288 GTO (at least visually) over the F40, F50, or Enzo. When the E46 came out I immediately preferred it over the preceding E36 and E30, and still think it looks nicer than the newer E90 (although I own an E90).
None of this represents romanticism over older cars, just a comparison over time. In plenty of instances (e.g., the F360 and E46 I referred to above), I have immediately preferred the new car over its predecessor (I also felt this way about the C5 Corvette and the second-gen Boxster, among many others).
