LOL. Yeah, true! I have a USB drive and I use it a lot. It's just I'm dissapointed I don't see a lot of people using them. Those drives aren't as cheap as cd-r's, zip disks(i know i know...old...), so I mix it up from time to time. So when I say disks, I guess I mean any other storage device besides a SATA hard drive.

Thanks for pointing that out tho.

If they had a flood, then it's perfectly reasonable to not have your stuff yet.

Why on earth did you not have a backup plan? I honestly would not expect something to come the exact day I NEEDED it by, and would have a backup plan.

these days they are getting to be cheap. i think i saw a 64mb key for like 5 bucks after MIR somewhere. that was a joke btw, i know people still use floppies. any obviously anything would be better than no backup at all.

dp: even if i'm getting the cdrs for free i have a hard time using one to burn a 500k file to. i dunno, it just feels wrong.

This thread is comedy gold. LOL. The title made me laugh.
I'm sure some other company will eventually become the fan favorite.
Used to get everything from Buy.com, but they don't really sell enthusiast parts anymore.

My order, which has been on step 2 the past couple of days finally made it to step 4 "ready to ship."

I paid the 2.99 to have it shipped the same day, obviously it wasn't, yet I was still billed that amount. Aren't they supposed to not charge the 2.99 if it doesnt ship out the same day?

Leave it multisession Seriously though, don't own a thumb drive yet because I haven't found any use beyond "toy to play with". What is the "killer" feature I need from one? Thanks

i want one to have programs with me. i only have 1 client left but she also happens to be my boss for my weekend job, and i have friends nagging me to fix things which 99% are virus/spyware. so having one on my keychain with spybot + latest defs, adaware + latest defs, avg free + latest defs, control panel startup, hijack this, etc would be useful to me. not having to burn a new cd everytime i want to update the defs would also be nice but that's just me. to others i'm sure that'd be no biggie.

if this isn't a situation that occurs for you then there probably is no reason other than having a quick way to throw small files onto a highly portable device.

I have a laptop does all that and much more, just ain't as small, but I'm a big guy so it isn't a chore to lug around. I will get a thumb drive eventually just because after rebate they are ubercheap and will be the easiest way to share pics of the kid with family&friends

That's all I use mine for. That is my life.

"Hey man, my..uh..PC, don't work."

Off goes the drive off the keychain into the USB port.

Only other thing that sucks is if PC doesn't have USB 2.0 or right USB drivers. Sometimes have issues getting PC to detect drive. Other than that, no real advantage of having one.

Chocoruacal scans the horizon and see many newbs. Having already taken his limit for the day, he calmy suggests that those individuals unable to deal with the harrowing world of E-Commerce should henceforth secure all of their computer component needs at local Circuit Cities, Best Buys, and Microcenters. Not only will you help keep The Economy rolling with by paying bloated MSRP prices, but you'll keep forums like this safe for those of us uninterested in the drama.

If you were uninterested in the drama, you would've stopped reading after the first post.

this isn't the 80s man! save it to a usb key!
When I can get 100 CD-Rs after rebate and make like $2 off the deal when it is done? Heck no!

I actually scored a 128MB Microadvantage USB 2.0 flash drive from OfficeMax a few weeks ago that was advertised for $20 in store on a special one day sale and then had a $20 rebate another $10 rebate print out when I paid for it (which neither I nor the cashier expected, since it wasn't advertised). Since they both need the orginal UPC, I probably won't get the $10, but the $20 rebate looked valid. At worst I get the drive for just the cost of the sales tax, and if they take the $10 one as well I stand to make about $8 off the deal. I love it when cool toys like this hit commodity prices.

And to get back on topic, over here on the West Coast Newegg is still rocking like Ronnie James Dio. In thge last two weeks I've ordered a video card and a motherboard for an upgrade I'm did on a family member's PC and both arrived at my home in Redmond the day before the delivery date on my FedEx tracking - and that's without paying extra for the rush shipping.
