Unless your system is a serious powerhouse then this game is probably not for you. To get a playable framerate on my system which is better than average (unlocked 6800oc, 1 gig ram, 2.8ghz p4) I have to turn everything to low or the slowdowns destroy me. It looks worse than CS1.6 at these settings and I am by no means a fan of CS. Just a heads up.

Bummer for you... my 9800pro, 1gig ram, A64 3000+. Played on medium and got stable enough gameplay to not cause problems. W/ my x850 pro it's almost all high except shadows and it's great. Could be slowdown from your network not your machine graphics wise.

I ran fear quite well at 1024x768 on my 6600GT.

BTW, a 6800 is no longer an above average gaming system Not when there's deals for 7600 GS for $50AR like I saw today.

Get the Coop Mod for Fear Combat so you and some buddies can play against a bunch of baddies from the single player game. Lots of fun. There are these freakin invisible guys... and walking Robocop like tanks... plus a gun that turns you into a little dark skeleton, with one shot.

P.S. Plays fine here on several GeForce4 Ti4200 2 Ghz Athlon systems (gotta tweak the settings), and sweet on an A64 Clawhammer with X850XT.

yup, hardware upgrade cycle has long passed the 6800 over. fear combat wasn't very fun though, ok to try for free, not that i kept it on my drive for long

It could be the resolution he is running.

GeForce4 Ti4200 2GHz Athlon 1Gb 195Mhz ddr runs well with 800x600 at 32 bit color.
Lowly Celeron D @ 3.2Ghz 153 fsb 1Gb also does ok with a Ti4600.
These settings play fine while still showing bullet holes and flying debris.

Performance Options Menu
Computer: set to Medium
Advance Video Card Options
Effects: Medium Effects Detail & Model Decals & Water Resolution.
Minimum Reflections & Volumetric Light Density
Off Volumetric Lights.
Graphics: Off FSAA & Shadows & Soft Shadows & Pixel Doubling & DX9 shaders.
Minimum Light Detail & Shadow Detail & Texture Resolution & Shaders
Medium Videos.

Very low spec machines would get a boost from enabling Pixel Doubling (looks bad though), or dropping down to 640x480. Disabling DX9 shaders would help weaker DX9 cards (FX5200 sort of card).

Two systems had a freezing problem where the gameplay would pause for several seconds. Newer NVidia gfx drivers fixed the problem. Some other systems with the same card and driver never had a problem. PITA to get some games running on all eight systems here.

This game is great...
especially the instant kill melee (yes, full health full armor, one flying kick from 5 feet away from some high ping guy and you are dead. ),
the once in awhile invalid assert or game invalid error message that end the game,
the vote to ban you if you are good (never because you are hacking... those that hack will constantly use the "auto" call for vote so you can't call for a vote to ban them), (BTW, I am average... but got call to ban one time....go figure)
and the most of all ban from server. (I already banned from at least 4 servers... and for no reason givien)

But I like this game.
