F.E.A.R. demo due at noon tomorrow

I bumped up to max textures on my 6600GT. The load time is AWFUL because it can't figure out how to cram a crapload of textures into 128MB of memory. Once in-game, it wasn't as bad as you'd think, just texture caching slowdowns.

I ran it with everything on Maximum and 1600X1200. Seems playable in my opinion. Then again, before this system I was playing on a 1.4GHz and a 9600SE, so my playable standards are kinda low.

Question, is there a command where I can see the FPS I'm getting? I'd really like to know.

REMEMBER that this the demo is essentially a "beta" release and is very likely not as stable as the final version will be. Do you remember how many people were turned off by the stability issues of the FarCry demo? It ran like sh!t on a lot of high-end machines last March but the final version was much better.

Look HERE for warcrow's post on page 3.

Open "Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEARSPDemo\settings.cfg"in notepad and edit "ScreenWidth" & "ScreenHeight" to whatever value you like.

I dont know how you guys say it didnt run well on your 7800s. I'm using an x850xt and it runs flawlessly-are you OC'ed at all? It ran a SH1TLOAD better than BF2 on my right AND not to mention the load times were the fastest for me of HL2/doom3/bf2(obvioulsy).
I can get exact numbers if youd like but I think the 7800s should run much better, check your settings. I just set to high and THEN i hit softshadows, and it would only stall during those loadpoints.

Running at 1024x768 everything maxed out at 4xaa/8xaf and no soft shadows and its smooth as a babies bottom.

I ran it on the rig in my sig, auto detected to high CPU medium GPU and @ 1280*1024 and it ran OK, not great but playable. The graphics are good, but I don't think that this game runs as poorly as so many claim.

Very fun though, reminds me a lot of a FPS of MAX Payne, messed up

Just ran Fraps while playing with the settings i have which is everything at Maximum but no soft shadows and at 4xaa and 8xaf at 1024x768

Average of 45fps with a low of about 35 i think at the least and it goes as high as 65.

It wouldn't allow me to set it at 1280*1024 resolution which is very dissapointing.

Has anyone had there PC lockup right when loading FEAR, the game doesnt even launch it happens right when I double click the shortcut..Its happened twice now and ive never had it happen before with any other software , its a hard lock to where the mouse pointer is frozen showing the hourglass icon, my only option is to hit the reset or power button, When the game does work it never crashes or locks up so it seems like some sort of bug rather than system instability?

This game is friggen scary. And the lil movie in the beginning was suspenseful. I have a 6600 vanilla and a 3500 and it plays fine. Only at 800x600 though.

Seemed to average around 25 (fraps) on my p4 2.4 w/ Radeon 9800 pro @ 1024x768 with everything at medium, volumetric lighting off, AA and AF off. I was suprised how disk bound I was. Seemed like any time anything appeared, the hard drive went insane. I guess I need more than 512mb.

They had it at work on our HP Media Center PC...it seems this game doesn't like the X300SE's performance :laugh:
It ran like sh!t, but as soon as i saw the slow-mo mode, i knew it would be worth playing on my PC at home.

Now i just gotta wait for it to download

With softshadowing on this might be the best looking game out there in my opinion, also it's a lot of fun. Performance is not all that smooth with the details turned up even at 10x7 0aa/0af on my system, which is not slow. Highly playable, but not smooth like you would hope at that resolution. Highly recommend downloading it, but it's the kind of thing that will really turn you off of a Dell 2405 if you were thinking about one, I'm not even sure how 7800 SLI would do at 1920x1200.
