I use Windows GUI but have been experimenting with some of the Linux distros (10-12 now). But that's another story..............

I tried to get F@H going on one of them, (I forget which distro now) and managed to get it downloaded chmod'ed and "ran" it. While it looked installed it never actually did any processing. The log file looked normal according to a guru on the Linux Forum. I gave it 24 hours and then blew it away in favor of Windows again, but I am curious now to know if we have many people using Linux.

The experiment was on a older Dell Dimension P3 500, slow granted but not THAT slow.

And I haven't tried but once because I don't want to mess up too many work units just experimenting.

I've run it on Red Hat and Fedora.

Hate to say it, but a P3 500 is pretty slow in the F@H world.

If you were having a problem, it would be great to look at the log file.

I just got ahold of BX440 box running dual PII Celeron 400 CPU's. Would it be worth hooking it up with a linux F@H client, like Knoppix? Would the dual setup be of any use in this? I was also thinking of running it under windows and using something like CPUFSB to give it a speed boost. Any suggestions?

Yep HF, it is in fact slow by todays standards. I'm running it only because it's there. It was quite the thing when I got it though. I even "upgraded" the video to 16 MB 3dfx voodoo card.......................
But it will do a work unit every couple of days.

trevinom I have the P3 500 mentioned above and a dually P3 450, but no experience with P2's.

I run F@H on Knoppix on various P2/P3 systems They're slow, but steady and if I actually let them run non-stop, I might climb higher than 36th on the TeAm.

Yes, I use F@H on a 500MHz Celeron. :Q

It crunches the timeless WUs, because I'm afraid I'll miss deadlines with the normal WUs... But hey, it might as well have something useful to do in addition to routing packets all day.
