Great Stats jliechty Thanks!

So I do the -advmethods switch and the next WU is a GROMACS... crunch, crunch...... 3 hours later 6 points...

"Yahoo", I say......................... Then I get the next WU..... it's a TINKER... I sigh... I see it is only 200 frames.... I cheer.....

then I see it takes 13 minutes a frame...... Oh boy..... serious sigh

-Sid

Actually, not a good idea. You'll end up delaying things for the F@H project people by making them re-send the "lost" TINKER WUs to other people after the deadline expires, because yours weren't turned in. I realize that sometimes WUs get lost due to overclocking, hardware failure, etc., and that's understandable and ok, but manipulating the client to get WUs of a particular core just isn't a good thing to do, IMHO. You'd be getting a GROMACs WU if they were available. Sometimes the GROMACs servers aren't serving WUs at the moment your client needs one; in that case, you'll just get a TINKER WU (or sometimes even a Genome@Home WU, but don't worry, that still counts with points toward TA F@H).

Trying to play with multiple clients like that isn't going to help anything and is likely just to screw something up. So please be careful, and happy crunching.

Glad to see you participating in the forums, Slowmover2001, and again, welcome to Team AnandTech.

Edit: BTW, Slowmover, don't be worried that you don't understand all of this terminology. You'll pick up on it eventually, but (fortunately) it's not necessary to know all this stuff to have fun and participate. If you think you have a problem, feel free to ask (don't be ashamed, there's no such thing as a stupid question), and we'll try to help. If we can't, there's always the Folding-Community forums where the F@H developers roam.

Interesting perspective. While I'm not sure I totally agree with the negative ramifications you described, I'm here to help your
team and will be happy to run it the way you are most comfortable with.

jliechty,

Doing a genome@home WU right now. I've been lurking on the folding@home forums, have some of the terminology down. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

im not sure but i think they send same unit to multiple users, it is too risky to send 1 wu to 1 user and wait for him to finish, that could be bad for project, but anyway what im doing sometimes is to make two folders and pick up 2 WUs (usually at the same time) and crunch'em (if they r interesting like gromacs).
