Thanks for the stats j.
I have a quick question. I have F@H in a Windows environment. For what reason would it be 'sleeping'? F@H slept most of the day away (maybe my computer is a pothead), but I had no idea it could do that. It's been real wierd today. It got a work unit and has been doing a whole lot of nothing. I left for about 4 hours and it only got 30 frames done. I know it can do better. How do you encourage your machines?

Thanks J
congrats mm's, some big ones today!

Happy cracker, 30 frames in 4 hours sounds about right if it is a big workunit. Have a look at this page Clicky the more points the bigger the work unit. maybe you got a 638 or a 639.

If it doesn't happen to be just a big WU (see the link that bgeh posted), you might have some other runaway process running in the background, causing F@H not to get as many CPU cycles as it would normally be able to have. Try checking the task manager to see if that's the case.

As they say....plus it's worth checking back in your log. I once had a faulty WU which sent the client into a "download new core then crash" cycle, after N attempts it went into a "sleep mode".

Thanks for the stats jliechty,

I've shut down the client until I can get some fans to cool my computer.

We're in the middle of a heatwave and I don't feel very confortable with the heat my puter generates when running this client.

ahh, I looked into the log file. it was getting some sort of "core internal error" and shut itself down. it's up and running now and is halfway done with the unit. in case anyone was curious, it's project 544BBA5, only a 33 pointer.

Depending on how severe your thermal issue is, you might get adequate relief from lowering the CPU usage to like 50%.

Insidious is right, you don't need to quit completely just lower CPU usage and your system should be fine. I do that too, right now I set CPU usage to 95% and also lower speed from 3.2GHz to 3.15GHz (2.53@3.2 at default voltage) in order to control CPU temperature under 50C. If it's still too hot then turn it off day time and let it folds night time only, how about that?
