Each Work Unit (WU) has a certain number of points assigned to it based upon a "benchmark". Some WUs are more effecient on a particular type of CPU (Intel/AMD). I have found that the Points Per Day (PPD) you will see from one WU to the next is not very consistant so it is a bit "luck of the draw" on how fast you will accumulate points.

Does it dynamically choose what WU to give you based on your system or does it just toss the next one at you regardless?

It definately throws you a random one, or so it seems to me at the moment. I used to be getting the super beta WUs with a million bonus points, but now I'm running through lots of smalluns. Lame.

They have an adjenda of what WUs they make available. You have the option on your setup to accept larger work units if you want them and have enough memory to support them. I'm getting lots of the little 39 point WUs at the moment also. I have no idea if this determination in the fahlog.txt file has any bearing on what work units you get or not

I think you are comparing a regular wu and a "big" wu. The big wu gives double points, so it will naturally have a better PPD value.

The "Min PerfFrac" column on this page lists which servers might send you a WU depending on your computer's current performance fraction.

The higher the "Min PerfFrac", the more important it is that the results are returned ASAP.

They want to see results soonest, maybe because it is a more promising line or new science or there are not as many gens, runs, clones or whatever.
