Welcome to the TeAm dawks-rawks and coolred, good to have you!

Congrats to the MM's some impressive numbers there!

Anyone else notice on the EOC page that we all joined today?

I've noticed some odd workunits come through lately and it's really messing with my PPD and not in a good way.

Yepperz, I've sure noticed :frown:

I'm still trying to come to terms with not only the inconsistancy in point production rates using the same machine for different WUs they are assigning with their (sadly broken) benchmarking procedures, but I get the creeps worse and worse when I read about all the F@H efforts to screen who gets what units. Just the differences in our hardware is (rightly) going to creat some differences in who can produce how much in a day, but it seems like they just continue to make more 'rules' for WU assignments that only alienate some machines so much the more.....

I realize I need to quit bitching about this.... but it's driving me nutz

I like the project goals and I like it that I can fold without worry about adversly affecting anything else I'm doing on the computer (including lots of gaming). And most importantly I have come to respect all of you that fold with me (and other DC projects too). So it's a dilema

Hi, I've been reading a lot of articles at Anandtech recently, so I thought I'd join the forums.

I just downloaded FAH yesterday and I just joined team Anandtech ten minutes ago. I should have a finished WU tomorrow.

Welcome to the TeAm, brainwrinkle If you have any questions or need any help, just ask.

Same here, I had been reading reviews and other articles for a year before I found out about DC and FAH and these forums.

What is going on with some of these WU's? I've had one on my AMD machine (A64 3200+) that has been cranking away for 3 days now. It looks to be a low point one too (p745 Gromacs). Normally that machine cranks through those in half a day. I've restarted the machine twice thinking there might be some problems, yet it is stable.
I noticed my Intel machine (Pentium Mobile 1.6) took forever to get through one of those as well.

3 days sounds like too long

Are you sure you haven't crunched more than one of them?

The 44 pts just posted. And yes, it was just one of them. I looked at the log, and it took forever. I never want to see one of those again. They kill my ppd.

This heat wave has killed my production. I've had to shut down my two main rigs just to keep my house cool. It's currently 102 degrees with a heat index of 116. AND I LIVE IN NEW JERSEY NOT ARIZONA!!!!

Could you post some of the log? The beginning and on for a ways.

I live about an hour away from Chicago and we had temps near 100 for the past few days. You've probably got the front we had .

Three days seems awfully long. My comp is a AMD 64 3200 @ 2.2 Ghz (I know, I'm a lazy overclocker) and it's working on a p1155 Tinker worth 241 points. It's only going to take 28 hours.

The disparity on these Gromacs is pretty appalling... for the last week I have been getting almost all p147x and p74x units... my X2 actually completes the 364-point p147x WUs in half as much time as the 178-point p74x series! Yep, twice the points in half the time... basically whenever I'm on those 364-pointers I like to think of it as "quad damage"

The X2 has been getting (and shredding) the 364-pointers about 75% of the time over the last week which might have something to do with me being suddenly 9th on the team in ppd... well, maybe that combined with some of the rest of you getting screwed

I know it is not a terribly plesant experience to post on the F@H forums due to the caustic attitudes of a select few there, but I really think a constant "input" there expressing these opinions about scoring of Work Units is the only thing that has any hope at all of changing an antiquated "benchmarking" process.

For any of the brave among you.... just post here if you would like some support in a thread over there.

-Sid

Here is a link to the forum... you have to register to post (Click the forum link in the 'board navigation' section at the upper left of the forum home page. Then click on the 'General FAH' link in the folding community section)

PS: My last whine over there is titled "Why am I getting Timeless work units"

The p147x units are BigWUs and you get double bonus because they use lots more memory bandwidth and other resources than regular WUs. Also, I think the benchmark computer does not use SSE (?) or something, so if you have that on your CPU, it runs even better for more ppd!

I started a thread in "General non-FAH" that has the following in an effort to quell the "caustic attitudes of a select few", if anyone else knows a wise saying along these lines, go add it here http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?p=107502#107502 :

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know the answer to this one. Can someone help me?

Where is this proverb from?

Even a fool can appear to be wise if he doesn't open his mouth.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The answer to this one is Bambi.

Where is this quote from?

"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Whoa. I just got a p219 Gromac and my computer says it has 1000 frames.

I checked the list of current projects, and it says the p219 should have 100 frames and be worth 160 points.

Is this just me, or is something messed up? Has anyone else had this problem?

When you look at the fahlog.txt file, it will show the number of 'steps' in the workunit.

It can be confusing because more than one step is accomplished in a 'frame'

Could you cut and past the thing you saw (and a few lines of steps being completed) from your fahlog.txt file.

Could help you better if we see that file.
